2 jeep build thread/blog.

tires out of balance.

Im glad to see the rigs coming along man.

Patiently waiting for the pics if your rig on 37" creepies :P

Progress on the grand looks great man. I love that rig

You'll have to keep waiting, working 6-10's and 2 hour commute each way doesn't leave much time.

i don't know how you do that. you are a good man to even wrench on it at all with that schedule.

Seriously, props to you man. Keep up the progress!

At my wits end on this vibration, not the tires, tres, alignment, unit bearings, front driveshaft, axle shafts, gears, ball joints, rear driveshaft is new from Tom woods. I don't know what it is. Checked and rechecked everything I can think of. Vibes pretty bad between 30-45.

U joints?
Driveline angles?
you are 100% sure its not tires?
pull front shaft?

its got to be Ujoints or tires or driveline angles

Used my entire 1 day off dialing the wj in. Had the tires balanced, adjusted toe and caster, adjusted the rear uppers to center the axle up perfectly, fixed a slight tranny cooler leak, and still had a decent vibe between 30-45 mph. Backing out of the driveway and got a good clunk from the engine bay. The passenger side motor mount is fubar, and I found her source of vibration. I knew it felt like it was coming from up front and I don't know why I didn't think to check there. I'll blame diminished mental capacity from 65+hr work weeks on top of 20+ hrs of commute time. Now a recap of the positives of this build, the 14 bolt after my shave job is within 1/4" of the clearance of the stock 44 and smooth as a baby's butt. Having the custom shaft built eliminated the adapter ujoint at the rear axle. the body roll is gone thanks to the new rear suspension design. The jacking from the rear under hard acceleration is gone thanks to the long arms. The rear travel is amazing and the jeep feels planted on the street. The new muffle gives the 4.7 a nice rumble too. And the best news of all is by this time Friday ill be in my tent at the top of granite bowl ready for 4 days of doing what we all love, even if the xj is still at home under the cover.

Glad to hear the wj is dialed! Have fun on the con! I wish I could go!

dude this is a freakin awesome. I am so damn stoked for you. It feels really good when it all comes together.

Well she definitely looks good, lets hope she performs as well. With the amount of hours I've been putting in at work as well as on this wj, my plan is to spend most of this trip breaking in my new hammock. I need this trip. Looking at a 17 hour day today, but then it's a half day Thursday and we should be rolling by 5pm.

Both jeeps are currently inoperable, and I'm looking to get away from the crowds for som camping 4th of July weekend.

Has anybody been to the small lake above union reservoir at the end of 07N29Y? Is it decent? I assume a crew cab 4x4 f250 on 32's would be fine on that forest road. Any other remote lakes you guys can recommend that I can get to in my 20' truck? Need to get away, worked 60-75 hours a week for the last 2 months.

Zach both union and Utica lakes are usually pretty busy on the weekends. I can only imagine the 4th if July would be pretty packed.

Try up 108 towards the clavey river

Love that area, hate the yuppies. That's why I'm thinking small lake east of the 2. Forest road has got to be less BMW/Lexus/Subaru friendly than the graded gravel road into Utica/union. Being that both Kevin and Jon are super familiar with the area and from the sound of it neither has been out that forest rd to that lake it is promising that it may be the unused gem that Utica was 20 years ago.
