This is not photochopped... I got the pic from the photographer himself. He says this guy and his family were camped there after getting lost tooling around the fire roads up there.

If you took the time to read the post you would realize I wasn't there. My shit's still sitting in the driveway waiting for the free replacement part USPS lost.

(FYI I've been up and down dishpan half a dozen times or more in the past. Jeeps and bikes.

Devil's hole, Holcomb Valley, Little John Bull, Gold Mountain, Cleghorn all the way to Crab Flats...)

More pics...

I was giving you shit, relax. Or are you still Grumpy? :kissyou:

weight over the rear wheels, nice amount of torque and gear reduction, light weight, etc..makes those buses much more capable than you'd think.

:) Pretty cool what some drivers drive them through in N. America and around the world.

Add to that IRS rear axles where both tires stay flat on the ground and beefy CV's on both ends. Those tranny's are strong! Ask any long travel dune buggy builder and bus tranny's are a good setup!

^this^

...IDK what the final drive ratio is as I've never driven one, but I do know they have gear reduction boxes on the axle ends.

Also, it's being said that it had bald tires... I can't tell from the pics tho.

67 was the last year of the reduction boxes.

When I was growing up my family had a cabin in Big Bear and I remember every single time driving up there I would learn like a dozen new curse words from my dad yelling at the VW bus going like 15 mph! I have to show him this! If he only knew back then what he knows now lol!

I loved reading that swamp lake thread ....
