1/17 Wheelin and M&G in Mass.

we better be in the middle of a blizzard for this run, i expect nothing less.
It almost was last year. Not that its at all accurate but the 14day forcasts are showing "Cloudy with afternoon snow".

I'm pumped for pulled pork and alligator after wheeling.

that little bit of metal in my eye kinda killed any chance I had of getting my axles and tires on in time, and my front tires are currently literally worthless... don't want to screw with it till I can do it right, and I've managed to miss every chance I had to get to a junkyard for new steering stuff this week. Hopefully I'll actually make it there tomorrow. If I can get my steering sorted out, tires on, and fenders trimmed, I'll be ready to roll.

What steering components do you need? I have 2 sets of stock steering not being used. I also have no hours this week due to working in retail so if you have some place dry to work I can help you with your axles.

I'm looking for a V8 ZJ setup - I think I should be fine installing it but I have no idea how to align it properly other than following gojeep's driveway alignment instructions or something. I have no real clear place to work at the moment because the axles are sitting in a friend's garage along with a snowblower and a lawn tractor... it's a little short on space for the XJ :roflmao:

I'll definitely bug you if I can find some dry space, but I'm probably going to end up lying in the snow on my driveway to do this.

Dry space = my garage maybe, but that's a bit of a hike for you.

I also did my own alignment (probably the same as gojeep, tape measure on the driveway?). It's been doing me well so far. Not hard at all.

maybe i'm missing somthing? :dunno: but as long as your current steering's in good shape, don't worry about the ZJ stuff before the 17th, its no big deal at all. You'll do fine with the stock stuff, just don't rail straight into a rock and it won't be a problem. you're staying at the same height, right? That'd save you a good amount of time for now, being able to skip the whole alignment deal etc

Yeah, it's VERY rusty (as with the rest of my Jeep) though... I want to have something spare on hand when I realign it just in case I bust a bolt in half, and I'm a fan of overbuilding especially when it doesn't involve much of a weight gain. I am staying at the same height, fortunately - I expect to have to realign a little bit when I install the new axle after it gets gears, but it shouldn't be too bad.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure my TREs are also fairly worn, and they are almost definitely rusted into the knuckles, so the original plan was to install the new steering on the new axle and throw it all in at once.

well if ur going to do it in the driveway then ok I just need help lol If it were in a grage I'd do it by myself, but outside with the cold ya gotta take coffee breaks and tag out to keep warm lol I come from a long line in driveway mechanics :p

rusty=still steers. if it ain't broke, don't fix it. bring the ZJ stuff on the run just in case, though.

it's pretty badly misaligned... I gotta screw around with it before I put the new tires on if I want them to last. I'd rather not be under there more than once.

How bout this, let me sit shotgun and I'll bring my 2 spare steering setups and if something happens I'll fix it for ya, alignment and all :D

:roflmao: if I end up going instead of hanging onto someone's roofrack, sure. I don't want to put my new tires on till I realign it though, because I don't want to wear them out in a hurry.

gotta get the recovery points on the front mounted, but I shouldn't have a problem getting that done in time.

a slightly misaligned steering setup isn't gonna hurt your new tires whatsoever in the long run, fwiw ;) RUN IT

eh it could, if it's really far out and it's a hot summer day and you drive for 6 hours straight. other than that, nope.

RUN IT

*ahem* slightly... this is not :eyes:

I put my "two inch lift springs" on, and was too lazy to realign for a few months as I was running on a set of $150 tires+rims and didn't really care that much. Only after that (when someone asked me how much lift I actually got) did I realize I actually ended up with 3.5" of lift and a significant amount of toe-in. Front tires are literally bald in some spots, rear tires still have a quarter inch or so of tread. Oops :dunno:

spin it till it drives straight :gee:

driveway alignments take like 10 minutes.

FWIW, put your ZJ to the same length as your stock tierod and then go from there.

That shouldn't take more than an hour tops.
