We thinking about the same piece? I'm thinking dust shield on the stub that goes on the axle tube.

I've never seen those on anything except D30s. We're not talking about those stupid plastic pieces.

This is the stub shield that's tapped onto the stub shaft that rides on the back of the spindle.

Oh ya. I'm not running any shield things anywhere. Straight up axle on spindle action. Wide open axle tube. Like a boss.

Or should I be ordering these 2 dollar parts?

You should have seen my HP44 tubes when I blew the yoke/balljoints up at Swanzey.

It was like an ecosystem inside that axle.

if you don't run those spindle seals, water will eventually get to your hubs and wheel bearings and ruin them prematurely.

I was always told wide open axle tube is bad...

nah, trucks have been coming out of the factory like that since the 1890s

there are seals right by the carrier bearings, no need for a seal at the end of the tubes.

And Sam, my stock axles didn't have seals on them, I didn't even know I needed something there until I saw another 44 shaft apart.

Yup. My 44 has a 2" tube id right? I'll call dirt fab and get all the seals at lunch.
