Thank you ! December 30, 2008
The end of the year is always a time to reflect back on what was done during the year, and if goals were accomplished, and set new goals for the incoming year. There have been many changes within this year, particularly in the leadership of the club - with new people in the director's seats at the beginning of the year, with a major revamp of the sponsorship coordination department, and the end of the year elections for the next incoming BOD.
I'd like to take a few minutes to reflect on 's land use function in the 4x4 community, and thank the members for their donations to keeping the trails that we use for everything from hard core rock crawling to expedition trail riding to geo-caching to putting the XJ or MJ into 4wd on a fire road to get out of town for a bit.
's Bylaws have a section on the purpose of -
Section 2: Specific Purposes The Corporation shall provide the world-wide community of XJ and MJ owners with a legal and operating structure to facilitate:
* Technical XJ/MJ discussion and provision of related resources;
* Coordination and hosting of off-road Events;
* Development of XJ/MJ regional chapters;
* Responsible use of public lands through membership in land use focused organizations;
* Exploring, maintaining, preserving and enjoying OHV trails with our fellow club members;
* Providing social, educational and family recreational activities for its membership;
* Promoting the continuing and renewed use of public lands for Highway/Off-Highway Vehicle (HOHV) recreation;
* Participating in, and supporting, activities to further the causes of OHV enthusiasts and users of the outdoors;
* Improving the status of our sport through the development of better public image and association with people who are interested and active in the sport;
* Publicizing and promoting the ideals of the United Four Wheel Drive Association (UFWDA) and Tread Lightly.
And a big part of the bulleted points are focused around the use of public and private lands for four wheeling. This year , at the national level, donated $20,600.00 to land use groups, organizations, and departments. This promotes a good name for , and makes a major player in ever debated issue of permissions of use for public and private lands.
One of the changes that tried out this year was in the way that we donated funding to keep trail access open. In years past, has made very large donations to two very successful, larger 4wd related land use groups, and given them permission to use the funding as they see fit - to fight for the important causes across North America. These causes (which are still just as worthy, and just as in need) were Blue Ribbon Coalition (BRC) and United Four Wheel Drive Association (UFWDA). This year, we still donated to those causes, but decided to distribute the other sum of donations to causes that local chapters recognized. We did this in two ways - first, we enacted a "matching funds" program, where national matches up to $500 of a chapter donation to a local land use cause once a year, and second, we decided to allow each chapter to pick out a group that really supported them at the local level, and donate $1000 straight to them from national - going back to grass roots causes and needs of each regional area.

United Four Wheel Drive Association (UFWDA) 100
Wisconsin OHVA 1000
Total: 20600
The above figures are only the national donation figures - chapter matching dollars, and other chapter causes are not included in these totals. Including those figures, I'd expect to see another $6000 or so.
I am blown away by these donations, and want to thank every member for doing their part - be it serving on their chapter BOD, working within their chapter to organize the raffle / dinner for an event, buying a sticker, donating time / money to the Give-a-way jeep, or just being a member.
I look forward to the new year, and am excited to see what can and will do in the coming year!
Thanks again!
