My XJ is my play rig, and the offroad park is only 15 miles away....so thats not a major problem. My DD is my MJ and I drive it anyways...It doesn't matter how i drive it, it gets within a 1 mpg average of 16 mpg regardless of how i drive it...but i do try to keep bs driving down to a minimum. The sad thing is the XJ will get near 20 mpg, but with all the mods it needs some serious octane fuel, while the MJ will run on anything.

I've got four vehicles - but they're all XJ's. School is a bit far for riding a bicycle, and I've got to carry too much stuff for it to work anyhow.

I'd get a commuter bike, but they way people "drive" out here makes me nervous. I'm thinking of getting a Weasel instead - I'd sooner have the peace of mind that comes from being surrounded by inch-thick steel...

I do keep my tune-ups regular and my tyres in good condition. I'm running down arounf 14mpg right now, but I'm expecting a new MAP, HEGO, and IAT will help that improve (I was getting up around 19-20 when I got it, except at school. Idling in parking lots behind idiots who stop in the MIDDLE of the damn lane - GRR...)

XJ's for wheelin' only. and mall crawlin'. got a cheap lil' rice burner to drive during the week. best of both worlds! when one goes tits up, i just drive the other...

i acquired a little 80cc Honda "Elite" Scooter last winter, that was destined for the dump....

well, i fixed it up just to mess around with, but now I've been riding it to work and for short errands around town....it tops out at about 46 mph, and gets close to 80 mpg!!!

My DD is a 5.4 Expediton that gets about 12MPG. While it is costing more, I don't let gas prices influence my driving habits.

Yes, it isn't affecting too many people around here; they still talk on the phone, completely unaware of other traffic...they still don't know what a turn indicator switch/light is used for...and they still shout at other drivers.

must be nice....

Paid $50 to fill the 00 XJ today. I noticed on the trip computer my average mileage was 23.7 up from the normal 18-19. I wonder if its because of the change the President ordered in refining regulations.

BTW: For all the hoopla about Katrina and the lose of refining capacity, the FOUR refineries that are out of service represent 5% of the nations refining capacity. Smell a scam?

I have a 30 mile mostly highway commute to work everyday, plus short trips here and there to the store, friend's place, etc... Just by dropping my speed on the highway from the usual 72 down to 65 or so, and changing nothing else has made my weekly mileage average go from 16.5/16.7 up to 18.1/18.2. I could probably eek out 19.5, maybe even 20 if I didn't leadfoot it from almost every red light and go zipping around the back roads. But my right foot refuses to go on a diet....

Edit: These mileage numbers are from the overhead trip computer which I have found to be very accurate when compared to figuring out the mileage with the pencil/paper method.

2k civic (Fianceee's) goes with me everywhere now. Gf rides her bike.
The XJ is my only ride. We usually take the Minivan on the weekends, mostly because it only has 6k on it. My Heep just turned 87k. But, I've been thinking about the exact same set up. Spend 2k on an old, but reliable honda...and get some good gas mileage for a change. How many miles on that 2k honda??

I've basically only been driving the XJ for when I want to go play off-road. Other than that I have a car and a motorcycle that get me around most of the time. The XJ will be my winter vehicle, unless their is no snow on the ground or in the forecast, then I'll drive my car.

I think the gas that is still in the heep is about 9-10 months old, so needless to say, I dont drive it much. Its driveable but needs work...
I DD an 03 Jetta.. 32+ average MPG.. which is better than the 31 hwy posted on the window sticker.. so I am happy.
The wife DD the dakota 16ish MPG but has a 5 mile commute, I drive 35 mile each way..
I want to go the diesel route, but its not financially the right thing right now.. so I will wait..

Right now I'm paying $4.25/gallon.
You know that Canadiadiadian 'money' doesn't translate 'round these parts...but then again at least you've got the right idea, calling them "loony" :D

My DD is an 04 Crown Vic (after my totalled 05 Focus - NOT my fault) because I needed a reliable car even though it's not much more efficient (16 mpg city vs. 12 mpg for the Jeep), and it's a NICE, safe ride. I did just drive my 84 F-250 with a 460 to San Diego at 9 MPG. The right tool for the job - I use the truck to carry stuff (moving and house work) and the Jeep is just a toy now.

But the price of gas hasn't affected my driving habits yet.

Gotta chime in...

My previous DD was a 1989 Ford Bronco Full Size with 351W and 3.08' pushing 31", delivered by a C-6. I got 9 MPG on a decent day. I got 11 on great days. But nothing that would make me happy.

I now have '93 XJ with 4.0 HO, 3.55 and 225 tires. :-) With AC and pushing on the skinny too much, I was 17.5. Without AC and driving like an old man, I get about 19+. I dont know for sure what I get on pure highway but Im estimating over 23! I mean, this thing gets GREAT highway miles! My normal DD scheama is part highway, part city.

So, to go from 9 to 18, Im happy as chit! Plus, this is the BEST VEHICLE IVE EVER OWNED SO FAR!

Cheers,
Andrew
