XJ Pod

Okay, I got the XJ Pod for XMAS, installed it, and have been horribly dissapointed so far. The thing rattles like mad, and most of the rattling seems to be coming from the enclosure itself. I got the enclosure to go along with my already existing JL Audio 8" sub, as opposed to buying the one with the sub included. Anyway, who else has gotten this, what issues are you having, and how did you fix the rattling?? Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!

Haven't used it, but an old technique is to use some spray on bedliner on the interior of the enclosure-- cover it completely, and you can do multiple coats. This adds mass to the plastic and will help reduce/eliminate some of the vibrations if it is indeed the enclosure rattling.

Go to you're local hardware store and get a can of expanding foam. Then coat all the rattle prone areas, reinstall the pod and presto...no more rattles. *edit*Never mind what I just said. If the rattling is coming withing the pod what I said won't be of much help, sorry.

That is an interesting suggestion I had not thought of. I'll see if I can get a hold of some and give it a try. Thanks!

I've seen three of these installed, all had that rattle.

The XJ Pod is constructed of sturdy, textured plastic

That's the problem right there. you can't make a sub inclosure out of plastic, it needs to have some rigidity and be glassed in, or MDF, or both. We used to have the same problem with Q-loqic's kick panels.

You can try this.. reinforce the plastic with fiberglass mat and resin, then take some audio dampining material and lay sheets or spray out the inside of the inclosure.

The spray on liner trick works well on the Q-loqic kickforms as well. ALso works equally as well for fiberlassed enclosures (that is where I first learned/used this technique).

Passenger seat?

A fifteen takes some airspace. try an angled box coming off the side from the bottom of the window to the floor and from the hatch to the back of the seat. It should be easy to calculate your cubic airspace if you keep it some what straight sides instead of forming it.

Yeah, I considered that, but was hoping to find an easier solution. Think I'll try the Spray on Liner first and then go from there. Thanks!

Another option to spraying bed liner is go to Lowe's or Home Depot and pick up a role of "Peel & Seal", it is in the roofing suplies. It has the the same properties as Dynomat, but at $13 bucks a role (6"x25') much cheeper. You can do the inside of the box plus the rear QTR's with one role.

I have never been a fan of spraying something so small. the mess and clean up are just not worth it. Now if your are going to be spraying other stuff, then by all means have at it.

I got an XJ Pod for xmas too. I coated the inside of the enclosure with undercoating (4 coats). I used the foam that came with it and it rattles near the top, between the enclosure that the interior well. I plan on fixing it later...

serves me well right now

Also an interesting idea, thanks! I do have other possible uses for the spray on (Tow Hooks and Tow Hitch), but for $13 I may just buy a role to play around with. Thanks for the suggestion!

Glad to hear the spray works! Still can't believe they released this product in it's current, rattling, state.
