Fair is a pretty relative term.

Some guys buy these off sites like you quoted and pay $600 or more.

Some guys pull them out of junk yards for $50.

Some guys buy decent running XJs with a D44 in it for $500, keep the axle, part the rest and make $200 profit.

I'd say fair market value is whatever someone is willing to pay you for an axle that is two decades old.

Agreed. I know guys who have sold 8.8s they picked up for 100 for 500, you just gotta either go find the right buyer or wait for the right buyer to find you.
