xj builders guide, cowl air intake

I thought running a industrial equipment style 'canister' would work well with a 'mushroom' inlet (think hummer, industrial equipment) mounted on the cowl. It'd keep water out so long as it's not dunked into 'intake deep' water or is hit by a rogue wave.

so i didnt get to doing this this weekend like i wanted but i plan on just running some flexible tube into the cowl on the drivers side, and into the stock airbox, and sealing off the stock entrance on the stock airbox.

Did you guys remove the black piece of plastic with all the small square holes.

I've got no pics, but I had a buddy put one in his ride--

loud, loud, loud......

I'd say it softer, but the hearing damage from riding with him has ruined my hearing! At higher RPM, your intake airflow is actually louder than your exhaust-- too loud for my taste.

very cool, thanks for the pics. I planned on hooking up the intake to the cowl using the stock airbox, but I like the space saved with this. What are the dimensions of the filter you used?

inlet 3.5", base 4.5" top 3" and 6.5" long.

Is the bad just driving around town? Or only loud when you get on it?

It would depend as much on the diameter of the intake tube as anything. I think he was using about a 2.5" or 3" tube and it sounded just like the throttle body without an air tube attached-- right next to your ear.
