I really need the transmission/transfer case skid and the gas tank skid for a 1997 and a 2001 (yeah, the same skids work on both years). Both XJs have an AW4 auto trans and a 231 TC.

OEM skids are fine if they are in good condition -- I don't do crawling -- they're only for the occasional Oops while traveling dirt roads.

If anyone in the socal area or southern central coast wants to sell those parts let me know.

Even if you find the skids in a junkyard and pull them out, that's OK for me. There's no significant junkyard within 90 miles of me so I don't have a ready source of parts.

I've got two tcase skids I pulled off of early model xjs. Not sure if they are the same or not. Skids are located in Bakersfield currently but I will eventually be makin my way to Pismo to deliver some axles and mj gas skid to Johnnie Walker. Just need to find the time.

I'll check and see if they are compatible.

I'll be travelling through Pismo and Madera roughly the 20th of January. Unfortunately I will not be able to carry axles, so I can't parts train them to Johnny Walker for you.

I got your message about the skids.

I looked at several of the threads about installing ZJ tank skids on XJs and some said it not only required redrilling but also some serious hammer work. I'm not afraid of drilling new holes, but I can't swing much of a hammer -- my elbow doesn't stand for that anymore.

So just how much beating is required, and with what weight hammer?

I was going to cut stuff off of it and weld it to an early xj skid because 2 factory skids are better than one. I've read they're pretty much bolt in but I don't know because I don't have a later xj to compare it to. If you change your mind let me know.
