Hey NAXJA. I to want to re gear my axles in my 89 XJ that have the stock Dana 30/44; Been wanting to for awhile. I have a locker for the D30 but looking for a good used one for my rear 44 that fits 4.56 gear ratio. Also does anyone have good used 4.11 or 4.56 gears for both axles as well. Thanks

Check a junk yard for a 4 cylinder XJ dana 30. They a 4:10's.

True, but i don't see four cylinders often. I'm always on the look out for things like that.

I have a set of 4.10 for the HP30/44. 44 R&P is "thick", so fits 3.73 down carrier.

I bought the gears, but then decided to go 4.56's. Glad I did since I am already looking at a set of 35's. :shhh:

I have a TJ rubicon air locker. It will fit that 4.10 "thick" gearset WAZZUXJ has for sale. Its brand new with the actuator.

Wishing now I would have done 4.88s for two reasons.

1st reason fuel economy at lower speed.

I get my best fuel econ at about 2700rpm which runs me about 73-75 mph, if I drive slower like 60-65mph my mpg goes to 13 avr. My jeep drives fine at the speeds mentioned above, but the brakes do not like to stop me fast from 75. But mostly would like to be able to drive 65 and have the same econ as the 456 gears @75.

2nd reason

If (and the if is more like when) I step up to 35s I'm afraid the gear ratio on 456 with 35x12.50 tire will kill fuel econ and power. With that being said.

I highly rec rob@ rwkhaus. He did full rebuild on front and rear new ere thing and I have had mine for a year no issues.

Other things to consider.

The front locker I would(if I had to do it over) gone with a selectable front locker, turning with the jeep in 4lo and a front full time locker is a bitch and 6 quarters.

The rear lock I went with power track and it is awesome have NOTHING bad to say about it

Again hit up rob he is the man man!

That's right... we were talking about these gears a few months back. But aren't those R&Ps from the TJ a "standard rotation-reverse cut ring/pinion" and i need "standard rotation-standard cut ring/pinion"??? Not sure though. Also i don't use a 3.73 and up carrier with these gears? Or can i still use my stock carrier/LSD in the rear 44?

Thanks Justin.. sounds expensive though. But what price you looking to get? And I'm guessing it's for the D44?

Hey Ted!
Good info there, thanks. Yeah someday I wanna get to 35's too... need to strengthen up the Jeep more first. But i do need better MPG with this Jeep lol.
Yeah i do have a full time Detroit locker for the front and heard the steering is going to be a pain. Got it for a deal and if something better came across then i might go for it. But i would rather be locked then open. So do you still run with the Full Time Locker?? I wish i could keep my LSD in the rear or get a brand new one with the lower gears but need to watch the budget. Kinda taking whats offered... but at the same time i dont want to spend a $100 or more on an open carrier.
I will defintly be using rob@ rwkhaus for install. Robbert does do good work and is local to me. I had him re build my D44 with cromoly axles with all new seals and bearings.

They are TJ D44 gears that are standard rotation (no reverse spiral). The TJ D44 gears use (stronger) 7/16" ring gear bolts opposed to standard 3/8" bolts. They are also a "Thick" gear set so you could use them on your stock 3.73 and down LSD carrier. You would only need to open up the ring gear bolt holes on the carrier 1/16", or you could use the stock TJ air locker XJJeeper19 has for sale for direct bolt up.
