So I've had plans for a d.i.y. Woodgas camping stove for awhile now. Tonight i was feeling bored from being inside all day so I decided to give assembling it a try.
For those of you who don't know what this is, I'll explain. A wood-gas or producer-gas stove uses wood in the form of chips or pellets as well as branches, twigs, leaves to create a highly flammable gas known as producer / wood gas. If the stove is made properly it will efficiently create the gas and produce little smoke. In fact, in WWII Europe due to petroleum fuel shortages people would make larger forms known as producer gas generators and use the producer gas as a fuel source for there cars. (check the web)
Amongst other things this concept is a viable means to fueling a power generator to live off the grid. But this is just a simple camping stove which uses this method.

I used a 1qt. metal paint can for the outside can which contains the gas. A progesso soup can for the inner chamber where the wood smolders. I'm hoping to have my final and best stove completed for NWfest. It literally took me 20min. to make. check out the video.

I believe its called a gasifier or something like that. I watched a show on a kid and his dad that tried this. Its a cool concept but can be very dangerous if not done right.

gasifier thats the word i was looking for, thats what the big ones are called. I've always heard the little camping stove referred to as a wood gas stove. because it not only produces the gas but consumes it as well.

Right on does this mean we are working our way to not having to pay the high prices of gas now lol

I like it Arron hell if anything it looks like it puts off some good heat and could be used for heating coffee lol

We'll see... I'm taking it with me on the hypo run

That's cool let me know how it works but I wouldn't try using it to heat the truck up though you might have a hard time hooking that heater up to a timer lmao.

you wont need a heater for NWFest.. you'll need A/C

Ya its not a heater its a stove. The final version (when made correctly) won't have such a huge flame on it. I'll be able to control its air flow better. The more air it gets the bigger the flame is. Properly made stoves will have all the cheracteristics of a propane camping stove burner.
