wisdom teeth

Ask for gas. I fell asleep during a root canal. Good stuff. Also Jose works to amplify the pain pills :laugh3: I also heard it sterilizes your mouth.

I had only one wisdom tooth come in and it was above the gum line. I want to the dentist and he got my mouth numb and two minutes later I was done and out the door with my prescription for pain killers. I stayed home for two days from work and layed around letting it heal. Like already stated, try not to get any food in the hole or you will go through more pain trying to get it out. Other than that it wasn't to bad.

Tylox is the same as Percocet (oxycodone with acetaminophen) and is NOT the same as Tylenol #3. The difference for me is pain free with the former and hugging the porcelain fixture with the latter. The oxycodone doesn't seem to have the same vomiting potential as plain codeine.

Be sure and see a board certified oral surgeon. With horizontally impacted 3rds you WANT to be asleep! :laugh3: Trust me on this!

I've found out the hard way that normal loads of painkillers don't work for me. I had my annual dental exam at MCAS El Toro back in 1990ish and the "Doc" claimed I needed three of my Wisdoms removed. He shot me up whatever the standard painkiller was, and commenced to working. He spent so much time with both hands in my mouth that I thought I would never be able to close it again...by the time he finished farting around with it, I was starting to feel things again. Once he was at Number Three, I felt everything he did but he never stopped. Once he was done pulling it, he threw the tooth in a basin and walked out, telling the orderly to "pack him and get him outta here"

The orderly started packing my sockets and asked me whether I had felt the last two - I could only nod weakly as I tried to unclutch my hands from the armrests. Apparently I metabolized the painkillers pretty quickly. On the positive side, they gaev me Tylox (Tylenol III w/codeine) and I passed out, motionless and without pain for a good 14 hours...

When I was ordered back in the next time, the Doc wanted to remove the fourth one. Fortunately, I got the Dental Battalion CO that time and he reassured me that the last dentist was long gone. He numbed me up and I swear he never even got his hand in my mouth but the job was done. Dang I could have used his services the first time around....

No kidding? I never looked into that; it's just what the Navy dentist said it was. Oh well. I recently learned that Percocet is a wonderful drug for me...back problems (herniated disks) dictated that I take Percocet as well as Flexeril (Cyclobenzaprine)...and gawd that made me high and sleepy...bad combo.

so going in at 2:30 today just to have a consultation. I think this is where im suppose to ask to be knocked out and get heavy pain medication. I also talked to my dentist who told me I needed all the wisdom teeth removed and he said I have an infection in the one that is impacted, I am on antibiodics but its not helping the pain at all, its a throbbing pain feels like I just got punched in the face.

Just make sure you have somebody go with you when you have it done like that, no fun driving home drugged up and while gas is good it still takes time to wear off. I had gas once at an oral surgeon, thats the main reason I have such strong dislike for john denver, he stuck a denver cd in and put earphones on me while he worked for 2 hours, now every time I sit in a dentist chair I have this chorus going thru the back of my mind 'rocky mountain high....colorado' over and over and over again. I think the player got stuck on one track for the whole time.. :rattle: :laugh3:

alright so the Dr. told me that i am going to be put to sleep with an IV, and that hes gonna get me vicadens..vicadents not sure yet havent picked up the perscription. He told me that it will only take at most 15 mins to pop out all 4, but I need a ride home. Has anyone else been warned about the chance of getting a broken jaw from this??

Got my lower jaw done and it wasn't bad. My jaw ached for a few days but the Marine Corps only gave me 2 days off, then I was back in on Monday, full-duty, running and everything...It hurts to open your mouth too much, it hurts to chew on any kind of food. But I was gingerly eating solid food within a few days. Before that I was eating yogurt, jello and ice cream.

Oh yeah, and getting knocked out is great! I didn't even know they'd done anything. I woke up and she said you're ready to go now. I said, aren't you going to pull my teeth?

yeah. they have to warn you about crap like that. whatever you do. dont drink out of a straw for a week or 2. you could develop a dry socket. and theres really nothing more painful on earth. dont ask me how i know. as for the IV. go with it. youll be in and out of there in what seems like minutes. took about 30 minutes to do all 4 of mine. they tried givin me a wheelchair to go to the car. i folded it up, leaned it against the wall and walked out like a pimp. the amazingly beautiful assistants loved it. i was hittin on them and stuff. live it up! its not bad.

Yea, they said it was a possibility and by the prying they did on the bottom ones I could see why. The one prybar they were using looked suspiciously like the one I bought from sears that has a drift pin on one end for my van to line up body holes. :laugh3:

alright got them all yanked on monday and today the sweeling has gone down i still cant eat anything but applesause, pudding, the usual foods you dont need to chew. There was a bit of pain the second and third day but now the pain is gone. thanks for your posts I knew what to expect after all of them

i just got mine pulled on Tuesday. For me they did IV sedation... petty crazy meds; a ton of morphine and valium, so i pretty much slept throgh the whole 2 hour procedure. Then i left the office with a ton of gauze in my mouth to stop the bleeding. Mine bled for like 3 hours, which was kind of annoying, but not painful. I was still numb from the surgery. The gave me motrin and percucet for the pain. I take it like twice a day and it's been doing fine. the first two days i ate pretty much a liquid diet. The pain hasn't been bad, and mine actually didn't swell much. Ice helps a lot. My problem now is keeping the holes from the teeth clean. Ask the dentist for a suringe type thing to squirt water in there. Get lots of soft foods like yogurt, milk, ice cream, bananas, and stuff for making smoothies. Avoid putting things like strawberries in your smoothies because the tiny seeds get really annoying. Plan on pretty much loafing around for at least 2 days. After that, it's not bad at all, just kind of a nuissance. Good luck.
