Will SeanP wheel in 06?

I have wheeled 3 times since my first 9" fragged in JV in 11/02

Wow. I knew I was a web wheeler, but DAMN. Even BOTW5,6? is passing me by because I have a vacation scheduled to bahamas week after.

Need some advice: Big challenge for me is lack of street legality and lack of tow rig. Tried towing with Marnis ZJ, but that was was downright scary. Bought a nice 3/4 ton 75 chevy and spun a rod bearing the first time I towed with it. Replaced the engine with rebuilt long block and broke valve springs of unknown origin. Replaced the entire valve train/cam with name brand, 268H Comp Cams (a little warmer than an RV cam). Still cannot get this project finished, but it's close. Even when I get it done, it's still a 30 year old single cab truck.

I either needs some buds to help motivate me (ie turn wrenches and fetch beer) or I need a new tow rig. No way can I justify buying 15-25K truck for tow only duties (sorry, single income) however, I could convince Marni that she needs a 3/4 Ton 6.0 Suburban. A 6.0 Sub won't get any worse milage than her ZJ, however her ZJ is paid for and only has 72K miles. Even though she would like a newer rig, her's is just fine for the 3K miles/year she drives. Would be nice to wait another year or two before we get another car payment.

Which brings me back to...

I gotta wheel this year. i gotta get this damn chevy in shape to drag my junk around for a least another year. Anybody up for a work weekend Saturday 4/8? I know, long winded thread to ask for work weekend help. Sue me...

I think I can come down the 8th. It shouldn't take much more than a day or so to get that pile running.

Is the wiring fixed?

Carb adjusted?

What needs to be done to get it totally fixed and ready to tow?

Thanks Andy!

short to do list:

Finish grill, radiator, AC condensor, fan, shroud install.
Find correct bolt for water pump to block (easier to explain this by showing)
spark plug wires/spark plugs.
finish bolting oil pan
carb was tuned prior to changing out the valve train, so hopefully that will just need minor tweaking.
timing needs to be set
front dash needs reassembly (from hunting down wiring issues)
tranny shift linkage needs adjustment.
install new brake controller
I'm sure I am missing a couple of other things and whatever Murphy's Law crap that will go wrong.

We should make this an official meet and greet event!

If we get enough people there, we may be able to fix your other pile of crap at the same time!

Which other pile of crap, I have a few :)

I was thinking the Jeep, but we could get a third team on the Saleen as well.

What exactly does the Jeep need?

Jeep is roughly wheelable right now. It could use:

New steering box.
Trackbar mount relocation on the frame.
A little more tube work.
Lights added in after changing the header panel.
Limiting straps in the front.
Winch mounted.
Tube doors.
PAINT, PAINT, PAINT!

I can bring the tube bender if that's holding you up.....

Hmmm..

I could probably make it out there too. Let me know if you need the hoist or the engine stand.

acutally, that 4.0 is STILL in the back of the truck from the day I delivered the other 4.0 to your house. I was literally on the last legs of that truck.

I will need a hoist and stand at some point, so yeah, if you can get a hall pass and make it over, that would be great!

So are we supposed to feel sorry for you since you have to go to the bahamas rather than botw? If you are going to nassau put the shark dive on your must do list.

Get a superduty :) Heck those earlly 90 3/4 tons are around $3k tow good guzzle the gas but will get you there. I think I sold my black one for $2500 and it ran good and handled the load well.

I had to drive my junk at 30 mph on the freeway to get out to the new place. I will promptly start a post on the mod tech board with "death wobble on stockish XJ" for the title :) It looks pretty cool flexed out on my 5 foot tall pile of old concrete though.

I'll help you out, I will give you what you paid for that saleen :)

thanks gary. I really think that the chevy will suffice for a while. It's actually a pretty clean driver, except for the MASSIVE FAILURE of the engine problem :)

Saleen, suuuure. Let's see, I think I paid around $10K for it...you can come pick it up this weekend. I'll even take a check from you since I know you.

Sean

well I would give you the 10k for the saleen but then I would pass you as the king of unfinished projects and I don't want that honor :)

Its a good thing Chevys are cheap to rebuild since you have to do it all the time. :)

Looks very bad for Saturday, another major weather system moves into Sac on Friday afternoon. Since both of your piles are parked outside, shall we bump it a weekend and hope for better weather on the 15th?

Inquiring minds want to know.
