why truss underneath?

i saw a vid on youtube of a guy who trussed his axle underneath. this doesn't seem like a good idea. isn't the risk of snagging the axle on something increased? isn't this why every truss i've seen is on top of the axle?

generally trusses go on top of the axle to keep them from bowing up

yes for rocks and trails the under truss would hang up - most racing applications will truss both sides - i suppose you could truss under and still retain some clearance but a good well built burned in over the axle truss is more than sufficient
