Why I like NAXJA so much

So I could get some parts from his 4.2.:shhh:

Pft why buy his junk? Just get a new crank for couple hundred.

258 4.2L 72-86 Inline 6 Cylinder 25210 $283.68 N/A
258 4.2L 87-90 Inline 6 Cylinder 25300 $303.68 N/A

True, but you don't know what the mains and journals have been turned that way.

Mark, those are for NEW cranks, stock journal size. A reman can be had for about $200, and that insludes bearings. When I do the strokers I usually order 2 or 3 cranks and get the best of them. I usually can get one that has only been turned .020 or .010.

Glenn, we are going to put a chevy motor in blakes because of a couple things...
First of all, it has a Pukegoat trans in it, so that needs to go as well, and the Peugeot means a 21 spline input, which means to upgrade to an AX15 he would have to do t-case mods as well. So... basically the whole drivetrain has to be re-worked.

A stroker motor would be cool, but it would cost WAY more than a good used Chevy TBI setup, simply because he would need a block, all the enternals, a head, intake. etc, etc, etc, and some type of fuel injection. I guess a 4.0 swap would work out fine, but that still leaves him with a lack of a good trans or T-case.

Here's what Im thinking... a Tuned Port 305 from a camaro mated to a 700R4 trans with a 231C behind that. This way he can upgrade his entire system without using adapters. The only things that we would need will be a radiator and engine mounts (which I can make if need be). I will be doing the wiring also. There is also a chance of needing different driveshafts, but we might be able to retain the current ones.

In the end, for what he is doing with his jeep, I just feel that something bigger and more torquey with a better trans is the better way to go.

I thought about this a while back when mine started breaking.....

88-95 5.0 Ford FTW! :yelclap: :shhh:

i wonder if something that simple would fix mine but i dont want to spend any more money on my carb, i want EFI!
just swap to propane! much cheaper for you and easier to deal with.

.02

not sure if you have done the swap but a propane setup from the ground up is over 1K plus i would have to fix my current engine to get it running right and im still left with my lighter than light duty tranny... overall propane is nice but im trying to keep the entire fix and rebuild/replacement under 1K total...

im off to a good start though, thanks to Dan who will be providing the new tranny and tcase parts. all i need is an engine and wiring harness.... then the "little" stuff to mate it all up

a large v8 and bullet proof drivetrain with 1tons and 38+ tires would be nice but i dont have the cash... now when i win the lottery on the other hand... can you say hemi JK on D60's and 42's and a crawl ratio that looks more like an earth mover :D

btw i like you naxja guys too. *group hug*

GOOD LORD! where are you pricing your propane stuff at? i can get you propane stuff for ALOT cheaper. with a tank. ive got a good friend that works for a forklift repair shop that gets propane stuff ALL the time. hes got tanks just laying around.

id do that put an aw4 in from an xj and call it done...

and fix my valvetrain and whatever else is F'd up in my block and head too right?

the conversion i saw was a kit for $700 without tank and i thought they were in the couple hundred range, making it close to a 1k upgrade and then fixing my engine and getting a tranny.

thanks for the .02 256OF (its not unappreciated) but i'm going to stick to pump gas

TRT: the engine and wiring, what info on it? year make model of donor if you got it?

i hear ya on the pump gas thing. easier to find when ya need to fill up.

i do agree a 4.3 would be better than your motor with propane.

yeah.... if your gonna put a 305 in it i would splurge to a 350... as there are TONS more stuff for them and there are alot of them in the yards.

256, he's still running a 30 in the front you know... probably not a good idea to get a 350 pushing it around. Besides, a 305 would be plenty torquey and they are generally cheaper since everybody wants 350s. I would definitely stick with a TBI 4.3 or 305, but a Tuned Port 305 would be friggen awesome.

Junk huh? Put that 4.0 up against my 4.3 then see who's is junk! ;)

I like my fords (own 2 and both are awesome) but don't be hatin' on the chevys.

by the way, looks like we are definitely going the V8 route, he got a killer deal on a TPI setup, just need an 86 to 95 small block to bolt it onto now.
