As many you all know, on the way to the Flog, my XJ lost oil pressure and I had to tow it home. So what to do? I had a general plan of attack in place but wasn't 100% confident in what to do. I have almost no money to rebuild an engine right now. Hmmm, what to do.
While on Chat last night, several of us were discussing my issue and old_man (a
member in the Colorado Chapter) started asking questions and I started answering them. He said it sounds like a filter issue. ChiXJeff agreed with him. So change the filter and see what you have.
Today I bought a Wix 51626 and installed it. Moment of truth. Start the Jeep. Oil pressure builds up to almost 60 on the guage cold. I let the engine warm up to operating temp and it didn't drop below 20 on the guage. Let it run at operating temp for about 5 minutes and it stabilized at 20. It runs at 40 at 2000 rpm.
Got on Chat tonight and old_man popped in upon my request. We went through everying. He said the diagnosis sounds promising, just to watch the oil pressure and listen to the engine. I may not be out of the woods, but maybe it will be okay. He made some recommendations and I am going to do them before running the engine again.
Thank you to those who helped me figure out what to do. Thank you to those who offered help. Thank you to old_man since he spent a lot of time chatting and answering all my questions. He was very positive and offered a lot of encouragement and wisdom.
