Why I like NAXJA so much

As many you all know, on the way to the Flog, my XJ lost oil pressure and I had to tow it home. So what to do? I had a general plan of attack in place but wasn't 100% confident in what to do. I have almost no money to rebuild an engine right now. Hmmm, what to do.

While on Chat last night, several of us were discussing my issue and old_man (a NAXJA member in the Colorado Chapter) started asking questions and I started answering them. He said it sounds like a filter issue. ChiXJeff agreed with him. So change the filter and see what you have.

Today I bought a Wix 51626 and installed it. Moment of truth. Start the Jeep. Oil pressure builds up to almost 60 on the guage cold. I let the engine warm up to operating temp and it didn't drop below 20 on the guage. Let it run at operating temp for about 5 minutes and it stabilized at 20. It runs at 40 at 2000 rpm.

Got on Chat tonight and old_man popped in upon my request. We went through everying. He said the diagnosis sounds promising, just to watch the oil pressure and listen to the engine. I may not be out of the woods, but maybe it will be okay. He made some recommendations and I am going to do them before running the engine again.

Thank you to those who helped me figure out what to do. Thank you to those who offered help. Thank you to old_man since he spent a lot of time chatting and answering all my questions. He was very positive and offered a lot of encouragement and wisdom.

From wrenching to wheeling, the people of NAXJA make this a fun place to hang out and learn. They share their wisdom and help members when they need help. That is why I like NAXJA so much.

i came here to learn about my XJ. then i wanted to know about my 2nd one. then i got advice on the 3rd one.

this is one of the best places with some of the best people i have ever known. even if we know one another by screen names and what our rigs look like.

im with ED on this one :From wrenching to wheeling, the people of :NAXJA: make this a fun place to hang out and learn

x3! i'm not even a "member" yet, but i haven't had anything but good experiences with the people i have net through naxja. i have been roasted for things that people thought were bad decisions, but never anything that would run me off. naxja is likely the reason that my jeeps still run, and will for many years to come.

Awesome! What filter were you running before? Just curious as to if it was a different brand.

Gotta say as well, all the people i've met in person through this site have been real down to earth and always willing to lend a hand. Even talked to several people across the country who are just as helpful. That along with all the money i've saved in repairs over the last almost 5 years now is more than enough for me to pony up some coin for a membership every year!

I had a STP brand filter on it for less than 2 hours drive time. I had been running Wix and put one back on tonight...51626.

That is exactly why i find value in this site. How much did I just save? Besides, I had to be a member to use chat and that is where I found a fellow NAXJA'er in Colorado.

that's awesome!

hope all goes well with the engine, and that the STP filter was just a fluke or something... we all know how great the 4.0 is!

...and i couldn't agree more about this site!
NAXJA is by far my favorite forum!!!

awesome to hear about that ed!!!

Great! I hope it pan's out for you! I know how money can be tight sometimes, and its nice when a $7 part fixes what you thought was gonna cost $700. Too bad you didn't get this advice on the way to the flog though, it would've been nice if you couldve made it.

Sweet! Seems like you my son has found the reason I'm still here! party1:

X's 2 on everything.:NAXJA: rocks because of the members.:worship:

Ed, it might be interesting to disassemble that filter and take a look at the guts.

packed full of sludge ;) i need to change all applicable oil and filters in my junk, it runs a lot smoother now after multiple rev limiter assualts on some big hills, im sure it shook loose 22 years worth of junk in the motor

Good idea.

Here is the funny thing, I sell Wix but got in a pickle and needed a filter so I bought another brand. I've e-mailed my Wix rep and I'm going to have them put it "through the ringer" at the lab in Gastonia to see what happened and why it failed. I'm curious to know.
