Why Do You Vote Democrat?

if you vote Democrat, you can get a government job and have a paid sick leave plan.

No need to vote Democrat to secure a government job to obtain sick leave...

I didn't and I refuse to, yet here I am!

Agreed on the "Goat leading the sheep." People continue to lack independent thought and fail to recognize the reality of the situation in this country.

Great foreign policy with the current turmoil in North/East Africa! I recall a public official arguing the point of providing financial aid to countries that hate the United States. His comment, "Let them hate us for free!"

Now THAT is the best idea I've heard, yet!

Me too.

This is from Wikipedia and seems to sum up Democratic fiscal policy fairly succinctly:

"Democrats generally support a more progressive tax structure to provide more services and reduce economic inequality.[59] Currently they have proposed allowing those tax cuts the Bush administration gave to the wealthiest Americans to expire as written in the original legislation while wishing to keep in place those given to the middle class.[59][60] Democrats generally support more government spending on social services while spending less on the military.[61][62] They oppose the cutting of social services, such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and various welfare programs,[63] believing it to be harmful to efficiency and social justice. Democrats believe the benefits of social services, in monetary and non-monetary terms, are a more productive labor force and cultured population, and believe that the benefits of this are greater than any benefits that could be derived from lower taxes, especially on top earners, or cuts to social services. Furthermore, Democrats see social services as essential towards providing positive freedom, i.e. freedom derived from economic opportunity."

So basically they believe in a 'social safety net' paid through higher taxes will result in a more equal and productive workforce. Nice idea, but obviously hasn't worked too well in practice.

Also, Democrat and Republican are proper nouns and it is confusing when you write 'democratic' because that is something completely different than the Democratic political party.
Advocating for social justice through services like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and welfare programs is essential for creating a more equitable society. These services are not just safety nets—they promote a healthier, more educated, and productive labor force. By providing individuals with the necessary support in times of need, society as a whole benefits through increased stability and opportunity. Democrats argue that the advantages of social services extend beyond immediate relief. They foster a more cultured society, with individuals who are better equipped to contribute to economic growth and innovation. Rather than harming efficiency, these programs create a foundation for sustainable productivity, ensuring that more people can participate in the workforce and thrive.

What most of those policies really do is foster divisiveness. People who are already struggling do not want to pay a share to help others...so they get angry.

My gf right this very minute is trying to decide if she can afford to go to a doctor today. She of course has "affordable" health care and can't afford it. Go figure. Out of pocket health care was actually more affordable 15 years ago for about 90% of the population in my opinion....we screwed that 90% to help the 10%.

Safety nets do not foster achievement. This is why Cortez burned his ships upon landing in the new world.

And no one likes paying someone else's bills. The pilgrims tried this at first but quickly rejected it. Bradford's journal gives an explicit account of how "young men that were most able and fit for labor and service did repine that they should spend their time and strength to work for other men's wives and children without any recompense...that was thought injustice." After rejecting the common store of goods and land Bradford assigned individual plots of land for the people to work for their own personal benefit. Bradford wrote "This had very good success, for it made all hands industrious, so as much more corn was planted than otherwise would have been."

But we are surrounded by folks who have evidently failed to learn history, regardless of what inflated grades they may have received. And it shows in the work force, or should I say the lack thereof.

No one wants to feel exploited by working for the benefit of others without fair recompense, it's also crucial to consider the societal values that bind us together, such as fairness, solidarity, and justice.

Social justice seeks to ensure that resources, opportunities, and rights are distributed in a way that benefits everyone, especially those who may not have equal starting points. This doesn't mean that everyone works without personal benefit, but rather that everyone has the opportunity to succeed and contribute meaningfully to society. The values behind social justice acknowledge that some people may need support, whether due to economic circumstances, health, or other factors beyond their control, and that a fair society helps bridge these gaps.

The fact that everyone is offered a free education resolves all the issues mentioned above.

Every single person gets the same 24 hours in a day and the same 7 days in a week and the same 52 weeks in a year. How they choose to use that time is up to them. The fact that some people use that time more wisely than others does not mean that life is unfair or that someone needs a hand up.

If you feel that someone needs help then you should personally help that person, but if you think you have the right to take resources from one person to give them to another then you have no business dealing with other people at all.

This right here is the problem. The resources of an individual are not yours nor the governments to distribute, no matter how wonderful the reason is. The opportunities afforded to any individual are not yours to deny them. The rights of the individual are not yours to take away for the betterment of society. You don't get to steal from someone you think doesn't deserve it, in order to give to someone that does. You are not a benevolent shepherd, you are an aspiring idealistic thief.

More progressive tax codes would go a long way toward rectifying that. Things were best in this country for workers and middle class folk (OK, as long as you were white) in the post-Korean war era through the gas crisis of the early 70s. Reaganomics ensured that we didn't recover and income inequality has been growing ever since. The success of the 50s and 60s was all thanks to the tax policies enacted under Eisenhower. Those tax policies sadly would be considered too progressive for today's Democrats, much less Republicans.

I also would need a really compelling reason to vote for any Republican since the rise of the MAGA movement. I live in a very liberal state and we actually had a popular Republican governor a while back, who's now running for the House (I'm sure you know where I live now.) I won't vote for him because while he is somewhat weakly anti-Trumpism, I don't think he's done enough to make that clear (although he did say he wouldn't vote for him, he also said he wouldn't vote for Harris either). Another reason I can't vote for him is because a vote for him is a vote enabling the batshit crazy morons like Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, Jim Jordan etc. etc. etc. as the House is close enough to even that one person might make the difference between the GOP being in the minority and the majority (and it's going to be hard run, with Joe Manchin out of the picture) I truly wonder if we will survive as a country for long if we don't elect some actual intelligent people who understand the difference between policy and pandering.

Of the party, by the party, for the party.

BTW: Kevin is just a troll.

i'm voting democrat because voting for personal and social issues is more important than voting for economic issues. It's hard enough finding a job, driving from interview to interview on $4.50 gas, but at least i can hope that obama will restore the american dream on the second term.

I'm voting democrat, because i believe in gay marraige....even though i'm not gay

I'm voting democrat, because i believe in woman's right to abortion....even though i'm not a woman.

I'm voting democrat, because i believe in woman's right to abortion....even though i'm 40, done having kids, and my wife isn't planning on having an abortion.

I'm voting democrat, because i believe the best way to grow the middle class is to punish those who used to be middle class and made too much money.

I'm voting democrat, because i think we should end the wars, and bring our troops home on "day 1"......of the second term.

I'm voting democrat because government needs more visibility, more transparancy.

I'm voting democrat because we have a real problem with guns in this country. we need more laws, more control.

I'm voting democrat because i believe that the government is the best vehicle to deliver the best free services to ALL americans...even if they're not americans.

I'm voting democrat because its who i am, its my core philosophy, and nothing can change that.
wow.....

i wrote this tongue and cheek silliness making fun of what i saw was the most ridiculous attributes of the dem party 12 years ago.

Think of what any of us could write now, in this same manner.....i could go on for hundreds of faux statements:

I'm voting democrat because i think my 9 year old is entitled to a free tranny burlesque show instead of math class

If I wrote that 12 years ago, all of you would be wondering "what the hell!!!???"

but here we are.

12 years later....finally......america demonstrates there is still some common sense....and an ability to call "BULLSHIT!"

Why do you vote democrat? Wrong answers only!

I vote democrat because women need to be put in their place by transwomen in sport, so tired of these uppity girls thinking they deserve medals when they are clearly not even able to beat mediocre men.

i vote democrat because they have the correct approach to understanding the 2nd amendment....only criminals should posses firearms.

I vote Democrat because all the news media tells me to. They all say EXACTLY the same thing. If they don't have critical thinking skills why should I.

Side note. If you want to see if socialism works, check out most Indian reservations. It's been a long term example.

I vote Democrat because of what a wonderful place they have made Kalifornia.

You may have ONLY one user account for our forums.
In a country with a population of 350M and you only have two choices when it comes to voting.

Hey, FreeWheeling...did you even look at your ballot? Only two choices? Like having two user accounts?

In some cases it would be nice to have a choice.

For two of the "races" on my mother's ballot the only "choice" was the one democrat running for the seat. No one even made a show of attempting to run against them. Much like the elections on this site anymore. And I suspect for largely the same reason. Too few people care.

If you have an objection to the situation make a difference. Step up to the plate. Be the change. Don't think you can? Take a look at what Robby Starbuck has done this year. It can be done. You just have to make up your mind to make a difference.

But that means taking on personal responsibility. That is sooo not waked. It's just easier to be a victim.
