Who moves threads and why?

We are a SOCAL group, right? Why then, when I ask a question for local experience for a product (tires in this case), does the thread get moved to tech? I do not want input from yahoos in the Northeast or Mid-west tell me how good a tire works in thier snowy or muddy conditions. I want SOCAL XJ'ers input.

Is it possible to move the thread back? What are the "rules" for posting if you want local response only?

Robert, I have moved the thread as it was brought to my attention by another member. If you look towards the top of the chapter forum there is an announcement that says:
SoCal Chapter Discussion of Chapter issues. Please keep Tech Topics on the Tech Forums.
So since someone pointed the thread out to me, and it didn't follow the rules it got moved. Anyways, in mod tech you will also get the benefit of NorCal folks and others who wheel in variety of conditions including rocks similar to ours (AZ and parts of CO come to mind).
I hope this answers your question as to why.

Thanks Remi, but I still question the reason why another member would complain about this type of question. I was specific in my question. oh well, I know understand why some folks choose not visit this forumn. I will continue to use the forumn. this is no reason to harbor bad feeling or anything, it's just a question of who "runs" the list.
I will be very careful of what I post in the future.

Actually, Remi, can you delete my original post. i will post it somewhere else

thanks,

Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez Robert...... bad feelings? who runs what? You're kidding right? Anyways, IMHO if you really want the best answer you are better of with the thread in ModTech for the reasons I outlined above.

Oh yeah... yours wasn't the first tech thread that was moved out of there and I was not the first one to move threads out of SoCal forum and you know what, it will not be last. Another reason why threads get placed in appropriate forums is so that in the future if someone thinks tires and likes to wheel in big bear, he or she will be able to search using those keywords in the appropriate (mod tech) forum and get your thread. So.... at he end you share the knowledge and help others too ;)

No worries Remi, just venting a little and pushing you around
I figured it would get moved anyway.

But seriously, what would someone do if they wanted to ask a question just for the SOCAL gang?

No hard feelings, right?

Nope, no hard feelings.
In regards to questions for SoCal gang... well if it's technical it depends: things are evaluated on a case by case basis. Cal asking about a trackbar bushing and needing it asap locally has reasons to stay in SoCal. Someone asking about what bumper to buy or what lift to get or how to deal with rough idle and so on will end up being moved to the appropriate forum ;)

why could we not have technical topics in OUR section.

The last thing we want is a bunch of stupid "what color should i paint my links" or other lame topics. Its not like we get too many topics here.

Robert,

Come out to the M&G(s) and I am sure we could have a open discussion about stuff like that. I enjoy discussing it in person a tad better than typing it up (my spelling sucks :D )

Why not? because there are plenty enough forums for technical info as it is. The more forums you get the more likely you are to get crossposting because someone checks one, someone else checks another so to get best exposure the same question will be posted in N number of forums (where N is an inverse of a log of the number of forums to the power of the number of users ;) ). Anyways, the rules are what they are for forums. We did get a local For Sale forum to help people out and a local for sale forum makes more sense then a local tech forum.

Okay, I'll throw more salt into this... if threads are monitored and moved, then the thread about Crackers build up should be in tech and the thread fopr Capt Ron MJ should be in advanced fab.
Oh boym this could go on and on and on.....

I am totally ok with this now, it just struck me wrong last night. This community exists for these types of things.

Kind of and kind of not. They are not directly technical they are more of a show off stuff to friends. There is some technical value to them but for the most part they are along the lines of a journal/blog. Now if either one of them started the thread saying: I want to do this how do I do it or what part should I use the thread would get moved in a sec ;)

Ok, OK, I will stop. This was fun though.

Ahh but you forgetting one key point. They have nothing to do with "chapter issues"

Now.. Do not move them.

Funny, I moderated this forum for what, two years, two and a half? I think I moved / deleted threads about four or five times. ;)

It's because you procrastinated so long they eventually dropped off the front page and you forgot. Out of sight, out of mind. :D

ROTFLMAO!! Second time that procrastination gets mentioned next to Sequoia and it's the second time I need to submit to someone a cleaning/keyboard replacement bill! Not counting the loss of Bawls as it came out through my nose! (which was painful too!!!)
