ive found that nothing works better at stopping power steering leaks then auto tranny stop leak stuff. i tried a few different power steering stop leak bottles and it didnt work worth a damn then i rememberd toyota guys run auto tranny fluid instead of power steering fluid and i had a bottle of tranny stop leak stuff, poured it in and i havnt had to fill it up for months. where as i used to have to add fluid every other week or so.

3-4 months and counting , havnt had to fill it once, donest make a sound, and has all the power it did originaly. used to have to fill it all the time and none of the power steering leak stop stuff worked so i tried it.

I guess I have to spell it out. The box Danno was talking about was freshly modified. A bad seal, or bad seal installation, or problem with the modification has nothing to do with an old leaky box that someone puts a sealing additive into. :doh:

well i just proved myself wrong. i finished instaling my new motor and decided it would be a good idea to drill out the fitting like i said previously. well i drilled it out and still no benifit in fast steering. maby i did it wrong but i'm open to suggestions on how to speed up the steering.

I just broke two of the boxes....bolt tab ears and sector shaft. Never had any problem with leaks, seals, or performance on these modified boxes.

Put the ram on it and you'll never (shouldn't) break a steering box again. I followed the tech thread I posted and never had a leak or a problem.

Yeah, doing my part.

Bigwoody, that's why the boxes were tapped in the first place, but since my rig isn't hard to steer I never got around to installing the ram. Dumb. I could have bought 3 good rams for what I spent on 2 more boxes. My Tommy Lee ram was $260, but it's a custom made ram made to the exact length of the throw of my steering. I just have to weld on the tabs and bolt it up.

Another contributing factor to breaking all those boxes is my lack of a good track bar mount brace, and my driving style.

Redneck Ram also upgrades the boxes they rebuild so that they have a higher pressure. That is what contributed greatly to the blown seal. Just tappingand porting, of course, doesn't change the pressure.

how do they upgrade the box to change the pressure seems to me the only way to increase pressure would be to change the pump.

I have the redneck ram and box in my rig. Really happy with the result, just will add a steering fluid cooler this month.

Ripping of tabs from the box or the box off the frame isn't an issue any more. The ram will absorb all of the shock loads to the steering. I did a 3/4 roll a few weeks ago (dropped to the roof and then bounced to the side) and the impact on the steering was so hard it ripped the ram including the tabs from the mounting surface. OK, maybe the welds may not have been the strongest but the steering box was not damaged, no frame cracks.

I already have an orbital valve at home to start a full hydro but i do not see a reason to start that. The steering assist works great with my 39.5 boggers at 4 psi and i see no reason to do the full hydro.

I run the AGR pump and Redneck box and ram.
