where in Socal can i drive on the beach?

Cantamar Mexico , mission bay, pismo.

Cantamar and pismo kick ass. Don't worry what everyone will say about the salt. It ain't no thang to clean it.

Just make sure if you do drive close to the ocean that you wash the salt off right after you leave. I drove my CJ-5 on the beach once. I figured I could wash it the next day and be fine. Nope, came out the next morning and my steel wheels had horrible rust that could not be polished off.

I like riding on the beaches in Baja. I personally haven't driven on them but have years of riding dirtbikes up and down the pacific baja beaches.

Plus then you get a kick ass fun weekend, Baja is super killer.

You can drive the dunes/beach south of Rosarito near the town Puerto Nuevo. Pretty fun just to watch the locals thrash their trucks on it too.

Pretty much all Socal beaches are accessible....haven't seen a jeep yet that could conquer a curb.

Might be some "fees" involved.

That's Cantamar. I had heard that it shut down a few years ago. I haven't actually confirmed it but I drove by last year heading to Puerto Nuevo for lobster and it looked empty.

Hah, I didn't know it had a name. We went there last year in September, business seemed alive and well.

I'm actually heading out to Rosarito this weekend. Not taking my jeep or truck so I won't go to the sand dunes but i'll definitely make time for Puerto Nuevo. What's k38?

K38 is a surf spot (k=kilometer), right next to the Las Rocas hotel underneath the giant Jesus statue. There's a little bar there called K38 that has awesome burritos, cheap beer and a sweet patio on a bluff over the ocean.

If you stay the weekend, check out the Sunday morning breakfast brunch at the La Fonda hotel south of Puerto Nuevo.
