I just read through it again. Its says that the max over bored is 0nly .030", the rear main seal is a rope type, the cylinder bores might have to be notched to installing a 4.2L crank. False. It gives part numbers for hardened washers, which doesn't apply to the 4.0L. Blah blah blah. Aside from the specs and assembly procedures (which can be found in the FSM and is infinitely more valuable than this) the majority of the information is generic and pertains to any engine. You can get a book on V8 performance and you would be ahead of this book. Basically it is a glorified engine related FSM with Mopar part numbers advertised through out. Most of which can no longer be obtained. The only reason I have this book is because it was free.
It might be a good read for the beginner that only intends to purchase this book. However the FSM and any other performance books will provide more info at a lesser cost.
If you are a beginner I would recommend the FSM to begin with for basic service. If you are interested in more engine work get "Engine Builder's Handbook" by Tom Monroe. It covers a lot of basic engine machining, cleaning, measuring, assembly and more advanced topics. After the I would recommend "Engine Blueprinting" by Rick Voegelin. More in depth with a lot of special topics covered. If you like math I would recommend "Auto Math Handbook" by John Lawlor. Besides engine it gives a lot of information on chassis, braking, tires, fuel, etc. After those books anything by David Vizard or Smokey Yunick is a good read, among other authors. This is besides forums. I lurk on speedtalk.com, which covers mostly racing info but some stuff still applies to out type of driving.
