Where can I find info on a TJ lift?

I've only owned and built XJs for the last 25 years, so. A friend has just gotten a 2001 TJ and wants to know what size tires will fit without a lift. Is there a budget lift? Is it worth it? What's the biggest tire he can run without undo harm to the axles? I assume 33s. If he runs 33s, how much and what lift will he need? Does anyone know what gears are in a 2001 TJ Sport? Steer me in the right direction and we'll have another 4X4 nut in no time. He 4 wheeled with an early Bronco for many years. Any help will be useful.

I have no idea if they are any good for TJs, but they seem to be good places for beginner XJ stuff.
