Where can I buy a large air tank?

I've only got a 6 gallon air compressor, and as you can imagine it's not very usefull with my impact wrench. I've got a good compressor, but it has no tank. Does anyone know where I could buy a 20-30 gallon air tank? The biggest tank I can find without a compressor attached is 11 gallons...

I would try the want ads and buy a used one.

I looked, only two I can find in the area and they're ridiculously overpriced. I don't really want a used tank anyway...who knows how rusty it is inside.

tried a welding shop? My local one also sells air supplies, don't know about yours.

Called the only welding place I know of around here...no air tanks. Found some at Grainger, only $163 for a 20 gallon tank. It would be cheaper just to get a harbor freight compressor and throw away the compressor....

how big do you dare go. how about a propane tank like the ones used for a stove or heat they have huge or semi huge ones just get an empty one and put a fitting on the top. or old welding tanks that don't pass anymore (they may not pass for the 5000psi of oxygen buy for the max of 200psi that you put in them they should be fine. look around for things that are not sold as air tanks such as what i listed they may or may not be cheeper.
haha go buy a few $20 tanks from walmart and link them together!

Hmmm...looked at home depot, they have a 100lb propane tank for $79. That's about 23 gallons. Only problem with that is there's no water drain, but maybe I could mount the tank upside down in my garage and drain it out the fill hole...

Go to Sears.
Find compressor with the size tank you want.
Get model number/part number.
Go to http://www3.sears.com/ and order tank.

Random model number I found in google for a 25 gallon tank is $326. :wierd:

Water heater tank, good for 200 psi. How many of these do you see around?

For some reason filling an old rusty tank designed for water with compressed air sounds like a bad idea to me. :gag:

There is hardly a reason to try to fill a big tank with a little compressor. You are gonna cycle-duty your little compressor to death having it try to keep up.

its a cfm thing.

hit the paper, go to factory auctions....you can score REAL STUFF for cheap.

I won't be using the 6 gallon to fill it, I've got a 3hp belt driven pump that I will use. I belive this compressor was attached to a 60 gallon tank at one time...

ahh...got it. I didn't read it right the first time.

While we're talking about it, can anybody tell me aproximately how many CFM I should be able to get from my 3hp compressor? It's 3hp continuous...not that peak BS.

there is no way of knowing the answer from what little information was presented.

Well, that's about all I know about it. 3hp...single stage...huge flywheel. I would imagine most other compressors of a similar HP would have similar CFM ratings.

Water under heat/pressure or air under 200PSI? Have you looked at a tank on one of these? Pretty sturdy, last for years w/o the suggested maint(flush every 6 mos). Of course, I wouldn't p/u the one that has been sitting at the scrap yard for 10 years. Works for me.
