Richard "Goatman" Gauthier invited me to cover an all-buggy trail run he was going to be on, along with
members Porch Puppy, Paul S and AzRick.
Goatman:
Andy in his new buggy:
Paul:
Rick:
Anyway, while on the trail Dean Bulloch tried to kill me. Forget everything you've heard about the legend of rock crawling, this guy is a stone cold killer. Don't believe me? Here's the proof.
We were on a trail the locals (like Dean) call Wrecking Yard. They call it this because in all their years of running it, they've always left a rig behind that was too broken to get out that day. At the very end of the trail is an obstacle that was as yet unconquered, and since we had made good time all day, Dean decided that today would be the day that he stood at the top in triumph. No matter what it took....
Here's the final obstacle on one of Dean's many attempts:
CAUTION- Some foul language on my part:

I was standing on the 39" Krawler of a buggy shooting with the big CRAWL camera while my little point and shoot was taking video. It was balanced on the roof of said buggy. Here's the last pic I took before bailing out:
After changing my pants and regaining some composure, I took this pic to show how big that fawking boulder really was:
Despite my near death experience, I had a great time. In addition to Dean, Craig Stumph and Todd Little were out with us in their comp. buggies as well as another KOH competitor, 7th place finisher Richard Gauthier. Look for a complete article and LOTS more pics in an upcoming issue of CRAWL Magazine.
