hey guys, just wandering if you guys have ever had a chapter run at Rockport,(recent WF was my first official run as a member) or plan on it sometime in the future. anybody have any runs under their belt over there? i don't live too awful far from there but have not made it down yet. we usually wheel at a local place, but it will soon be closed down to anything that is not a quad or bike, thanks to the DNR. also, if interested there is a place to wheel in Iowa that is privately owned, and the owner opens it it up to non members twice a year as a fund raiser. about 350 acres of southern Iowa timber, with some quarry thrown in the middle. Scott...........

I live about an hour from Rockport, I wheeled a small part of it once in my wife's stock '01 XJ and had a blast. It is definitely worth planning a trip to. Does this Saturday work for anyone?

man i wish i could go saturday. i will be in Des Moines for my daughters state(league) volleyball tournament. but we do have a lot of fun at the tourneys, gotta enjoy it while i can.

how close to IA city?

I would be up for that!

well opie, it's between you and me(somewhat) but closer to me. actually the official address is hamilton ia. from lincoln you could go over on hiway 34 or run down i-80 and head southeast out of Des Moines. if you want more details or exact directions let me know. i will say, the next run will be Memorial day weekend, 75 bucks for three days of wheeling, camping on site,( electricity is extra) also they will have a "chuck wagon" on site for breakfast, lunch and or supper. possibly a hog roast on saturday night, and usually a raffle of some sort(not sure on the hog and raffle this year) i can guide you there i think, i have been wheeling down there for about 7yrs. it's 1.5 to 2hrs. from Ia. city, to answer your question. ckeck out, MIOBI.org for details. (the V.P. of the club there is the guy i told you about that does the gear work)

I made a solo run there a few weeks ago and had a blast!

I think I have heard of the place in Iowa, is it Castana?
Ron

zuki-ron, in responce to your question, no the place in Iowa is not Castana. i think that place is way on the western border. the place i am referring to is in southern Iowa, has big timber, a creek to run in, and sort of finger like quarry areas.

If you're looking to wheel this weekend, consider coming to Pittsfield Saturday morning. TRJC is having a trail building weekend and it'd be an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to join a great club to meet some of the people involved and do a little wheeling while helping to care for the land (it's more fun than work, really).
Those members working on Saturday are offered free entrance into Rockport on Sunday. The owner, Tom, was the founder of TRJC.

I was plannig on going to the TRJC trail build but my wife wants me to spend time with the family! I work every other weekend then I Jeep the other weekend and fix it during the week. I told her if she got Jeep tatoo'd on her butt then she would get more of my time. She did not like that very well.

TRL WGN and I were there in my rig, test driving his Swampers. We took down a big cedar tree from a landowner's property as our work, then headed over to Rockport to play. GOTTA love those Swampers. I still can't believe some of the climbs we made given how muddy it was. We thought we might see you there, but the only other rigs we ran into were an inexperienced guy in a Grand and his wife in a stock Rubi who were in way over their heads.

Tom and some guys were adding HUGE new boulders to the rock courses for the upcoming competition. It should be a sight to see. In addition to the boulder-strewn courses, they have what look like a couple of man-made concrete waterfalls - long, steep uneven climbs up concrete with boulders sitting at the very top. Looks very scary!

Not sure why your wife didn't go for the tatoo idea . . . I may just mention that to my wife!

I went today just got back about an hour ago. I took some first timers up tall dog backwards. they said they wanted a challenge. A YJ lost four wheel drive half way through endded up pulling him through. had a good time only minnor body damage.
