Wheeling in northern Me.

I'm interested. A lot depends on when you have in mind.

Iam in. I have spent alot of my time driving rt 6 to my camp in Newburnswick. There are some pretty crazy looking "roads" off of there. I bet some exploreing it could get pretty good. If you type in Lee maine in google earth and follow rt 6 you can see how far some of them go. But let me know.

I am in. I should be back in Maine by then. I should have my winch and 35's on my XJ by then. Can't wait.

just rember to check into the legalities a little before ya go "exploring" even if they look heavily used. topo maps are one of the best tools you can use combine old/new maps to find old log/acces roads.

Interested if the timing is right. I would suggest a weekend, when loaded trucks roaring down through you do not have the right of way. Ever.

yea definately im in also and that will give me a good excuse to let chris borrow one of my tow straps. maybe next time someone needs help they should come find a fellow jeeper who has experience and all the essentials needed instead of breaking your cheap two strap instead. i might be in maine for the summer if i land the harbor master job for searsport. if not im headed home to maryland. keep posting and see whats out there. also good idea bout checking out the legal rights because it could be bad areas or like 98xj said some crazy loggers who dont care and will run ya off the road. been there done that. and never again !!!!

YO andy this thread is here to plan a northern maine trip. Not for you to bitch becuase I didnt drive all around looking for help that we didint need. And as I siad a million times in the last week. Your tires are blad they will not grip in a pull. And for breaking my strap I bet money and other strap would of broken in the way we were using it.

Alright enougth siad, I aplgoize for hijacking this thread. and andy when you going to get your jeep muddy?

and something acutally imporant to this thread. For the logging trucks as long as your on a cb or talk to the company there ussaly isnt to much trouble.I been driving loggin roads on my quad since I was about 5. Stay on your side and dont do anything stupid and give them the right of way and its all good

I am interested if my wife stops buying new crap for the house that we dont need so I can buy all my skid s and stuff. Lets see...new living room set, new grill, new tv, new bedroom set.......should have been bigger lift, bigger tires and all my skids instead.

I agree w/ what bluexj96 said. I too spent a lot of my younger years on the logging/back country roads in Maine. Give right of way and communicate w/them via CB which you should have in your rig anyway and there should not be any problems. I know up by Jackman and the Forks area there used to be some good trails. I want to try to find the trails that go up to Eagle Lake and that area. I can not wait to get back to Maine.

Usually 1 or 2 vehicles can get out of a trucks way, but not 6-12. But definately a CB a must, depending on time of year might also want to remember fire permits. And fishing poles...

Thanks for all the replies! Most importantly, I have no intention of traveling that far to tresspass! The owner of the camp, who has a Jeep and wheels it, said he would let me, and or us know where to stay away from as far as active logging operations. I know all too well that those logging trucks run hard, and are usually overweight, hence they dont stop very well. As to when this will happen, mid july thru early sept. We would be going up thurs, and leave sunday, So lets start looking at calenders now, and make a comittment in the near future. As far as the size of the group is concerned, I would think no more than ten rigs would be manageable. we've been on enough trails to know that a moderate trail thats dry is not a problem. Add a good downpour to the same trail, and you're driving thru oatmeal! Anyway, I'll post the basic cost of the cabins real soon. Thanks again, Matt

Okay, here's the scoop. The cabins are 25.00 pp. per nite, with a 2 night minimum. These cabins are fully equipt, with toilet, and shower. If the pooch is comming along its another 5.00 per night, and they would like Fido not to sleep on the bed. There is a common area for a bond fire, so I dont think any fire permits are necessary. As far as cooking anything on the trail, we carry a very compact gas grill. Personally, I would think the cooking thing would be better at the end of the day. Anyway, somebody remember to bring the marshmellows!!

Here are the dates, lets try to pick one or narrow it down as soon as possible, so that reservations can be made, and rigs be brought up to snuff if need be. July, 13-16,20-23,27-30. Aug, 10-13,24-27, 31-3. Sept7-10, 14-17, 21-24. All these dates are thurs, thru sun.The thurs, and sun. would be a travel day for some. Labor day weekend usually ends up with some kind of conflict for some. If there arent any, that would be a good choice.

So far for me, july 27-30, aug 10-13, 24-27, sept. 7-10, 21-24 seem to be the better choices. If we get enough people that agree to a different weekend it shouldnt bee too much of a problem for me to ask for the a weekend switch for work but I am alkready scheduled to have the ones off that i listed.

will this be an xj/jeep only weekend or what? my jeeps not going to driveable for a while but i will have my pickup, sounds like a good time either way

July 13-16 and Sept 14-17 both Nextel Cup races in Loudon. Those would be out for me for sure.

any weekend sounds good now but im not sure what my schedule will be like in the summer when im working for the harbor master. but keep posting and i can add them to my tentative schedule and i can let you know as i go.
