Me and my buddy decided this past Friday would be a great day to go wheeling after the snow we got on Thursday. So we headed up Old Stage/Gold Camp late morning. The plow had already done most of it but there was a section that he hadn't gotten to yet; I love driving through fresh powder. We decide to hang a right near the Penrose/Rosemont reservoir on the trail that heads up to the Mt. Baldy trail. Unfortunately someone (2 Jeeps, it turns out) had already beaten us there, so we didn't get to cut new tracks, but it was beautiful anyway.
On our way up we passed a TJ coming down and at one point decided to stop where 370C begins/ends. There's a sign there, anyway, it might not be the official start of the trail. Basically, 3 trails are coming together at this point, or you could say 370C Ts into one trail, whatever. Here's a picture of us parked, the trail we came down behind us.
So, while we are sitting there an XJ (close to stock) approaches from in front of us with two guys inside, both older. They stop about 20-25 ft in front of us and the driver gives me an exasperated 'what's up' shrug and death stare. Not quite sure what this guys problem is, I think a bit and figure he must think we are in his way. So, I point to my left, his right, and basically signal for him to go around us, to the left of the Rover in the picture below, and as you can see, there are already tracks there.
Apparently, that was unsatisfactory because he flips me off. At this point I'm starting to get pissed because this guy's flipping me off for no reason. From there I don't remember exactly the order of what happened. I basically tried to tell him we were at a junction and it was pretty much all trail, it didn't matter where he drove. Again, not satisfactory. He started cursing at me, about me, and I got to hear about how I'm part of the problem.
Excellent people skills I'm thinking to myself. So I leaned out my window (we were all in our vehicles throughout this encounter) and yelled, "You flip me off, you curse me out, NO, I'm not going to move." Once again, not satisfactory, more cursing follows. He decides I'm serious and drives around to my right, as seen in the picture above, the tracks to the right of my XJ.
After I got out and calmed down a bit I took the above pictures and decided to look at the tracks in the snow. As I said earlier, there were only two trucks up there before us. This XJ with mud terrains on and the TJ, which had a swamper type tire on. Pretty easy to tell the difference between the two in the snow. Well, the tracks to the left of us in the picture below matched the tracks to the right of us.
So, the guy had already driven over there, but couldn't drive over there now?
So, I ask, what the hell is wrong with people? :dunno:
I figured it had to be Jeep envy. Either that or somebody peed in his Wheaties that morning.
It should be noted that I never flipped the guy off, or cursed at him throughout the confrontation.
