What would be better a YJ slip yoke or eliminator kit.

Porch how did your I.R.O. Fail?

It was never good, but started off okay. After about 5k miles of driving the vibrations got so bad i had to stop driving it over 50mph. Pulled the driveshaft off and realized there was a good .25" of lateral motion on the yoke by hand.
I tried putting some big spot welds on the back half of the yoke to prevent it from wobbling side to side but that only fixed it for a few miles...not surprising, but worth a shot.
I did the install perfectly (cutting/drilling done with the motor idling/trans in reverse to create a lathe) and used the driveshaft they supplied. I only had 1" of splines which i think contributed to the early failure.

They couldn't tell me why it failed, but said that since i had put a few tack welds on it there was no warranty. I sent them pictures and video and all the guy could tell me was "mine works great!".

After reading around on here, i realized that just about everyone's does this eventually, mine was just accelerated for some reason.

Bought a PORC SYE and haven't had any vibes since, nothing else changed. Wish i hadn't wasted the $200 on IRO's half-ass solution when i could have just done it right for less $$ in the first place ($160 PORC SYE + $20 junkyard shaft). The warranty situation = i shop elsewhere now.

I got a front drive shaft from a 99 xj, it is too short for the sye kit that I installed. I do have an advance adapters sye installed. Does any one know of a link that I can get mesurements of the drive shaft lengths? Or I guess, does anyone just know what I can use. I obviously need something longer then a stock xj shaft... Just want to find out as much as I can before I head back out to pull-a-part.

I guess I should add that I have 4.25 inches of lift.

I went to pull-a-part and got the front shaft out of a grand cherokee. I took a tape measure and fount one that was the correct length. It was 17 bucks.

No problem Kevin, if you are thinking of doing something along the same line as me, be sure to take a tape measure, there were several different lengths!

A Tom Woods shaft is warranted against trail breakage, and members get a discount
The discount alone is more than another junkyard shaft. I would have to burn 10 junkyard shafts to get a single Tom Woods shaft. In all honesty if a smoke 10 JY shafts the Tom Woods shaft isn't going to help. Not to mention you should still carry a trail spare and whats that spare going to be an expensive Tom Woods or another $10-20 JY front shaft? Not worth it to me at all nor 90% of this forums. Especially since the performance difference is negligible.

'96 cntry, auto, NP231, 4.5" RE Superflex, 32's

I am about to pony up the dough to have this done soon too. And want to make sure I have everything that's needed, and everything correct.

Have the HD SYE kit and am wondering about drive shaft length. Where do I measure the current shaft from-and-to? Center of u-joints - - top center to bottom center? And once the SYE kit is installed will it extended out the t-case the same amount as stock, not changing any measurements I took before.

I understand I need a front shaft from an auto XJ, anything from the '90s should do as long as is it a CV shaft with the knuckle (double-cardan) and fits my measurements? I have pulled a lot of smaller parts from a parts yard, but never a drive shaft. Any advice?

Am a really only doing this as preventative. I have almost zero vibs right now, only some when I am at typical hwy cruising speeds and I let off the gas, a little can be heard/felt.

Snow_holic, I measured from the center of the bearing cap where my new yoke came out of the sye the the center yoke on the rear axle. The SYE kit will shorten the shaft out of the rear of the transfer case, thus decreasing the angle your drive shaft has to angled at, but requiring a longer cv type axle. Once you have the new SYE kit installed, that is when you measure, if you compare your front shaft to the rear shaft on your xj, you can see the difference in how they work. I belive that mine measured in at 33 inches with 4 inch lift. You should be some where in that range.
