What would a piston ring job cost me?

the main fan seems to be ok from what i can tell... i replaced the fan clutch less than 5000 miles ago... but to be honest i havent taken the thing on the freeway since the new head got put on for fear of another big repair bill.

does anyone know of a good place to put a digital temp probe to rule out the temp sender giving me weird readings due to its location...? its reading high for sure and the engine sure seems to be giving off lots of heat... but i would like to be sure. i just discovered the mechanic put the probe in the tstat mounting block... not the head as he told me he did... but if anything i'd think that this location might read a bit 'low'....

WOW.

just wow... I just discovered my mechanic installed my serpentine belt wrong - the WP loop was reversed from what it should be... I didn't even CONSIDER this as a possibility - I guess this could explain the overheating (??)

thanks

guess that would ALSO be driving the fan backwards... also what caused my original overheat last time that caused me to have to get the head replaced... GRRRRRRR!!!!

oops! scratch that. the internet apparently has too many variations of freely available belt routing schemes... it seems to match my illegible diagram well enough... so back to square one - I guess i'll take out the t-stat and run it that way for a while and see what happens.

hmmm.....trying to post a picture of the gasket i found after pulling open the t stat housing... all the flow holes completely covered up...

no way of posting pics here i guess unless you already have it uploaded to a server? lame if so... we used to be able to do that circa 1999 if i recall correctly

Those holes are just to prioritize engine coolant across the heater core until the thermostat opens up. Was the pointy side of your thermostat facing you when you removed the housing?

I drilled my late model head in the driveway, no reason to fear that one again.
