what winch schould i buy

theres so many to choose from.what are you guys runing?theres cheap vortex on egay or theres ones at harbor freight.not sure need advise i guess as long as theres a warranty the harbor freight sounds good an is cheap.if breaks can just drive back to store an exchange i think they are chicago electric.

Everyone has their preference from Awesome winch to Cheap price.

I like the Warn 9500 for speed and power, but I don't own one. I have a XR8 Smitty Built. OK recovery speeds, reasonable price. I have owned a number of HF winches ( All E8000s). They are dependable, but are slow.

I bought an xrc8 for about 270 shipped of "winch depot" aka 4 wheel parts....

haven't used it yet but for the $ and rave reviews i would go with this instead of the harbor freight... for the extra $ saved i believe you can even buy a lifetime warranty...

the quality out of the box seems to be pretty nice... its heavy (im using it on a cradle) but from everywhere i read it takes the abuse and gets the job done....

X2. I own a Warn 9.5ti. I love it, it as a powerful dual stage bosch motor, and a thermostat to prevent overheating of the drum. This winch boasts an unparellaled 62 feet per minute speed with no load. dont be fooled, you get exactly what you pay for when you purchace a Warn. Customer service is also excellent. My dads ATV winch wasnt even covered on a warranty, and he called to order a new solinoid for his...the guy asked him a few questions about his winch, then sent him a new one for no charge, as long as he sent the old one back. Warn has also just released its new endurance 12,000lb winch. It has a cooling fan that mounts under the hood and pump cool air directly to the winch drum. It also has a 4.6hp Bosch motor, and has a empty line speed of 39.5fpm.

I have been running a Ramsey REP8500 for years. It is a mid class winch and is slow as the day is long, but it has not failed me and it is made in the USA. Like Ron mentioned, check out the search feature, the winch discussion has been covered thousands of times.

but if it breaks, that means that you're using it and you're still stuck. the warranty won't get you out of the hole.

I've got a warn hs9500i, had it for years and it's never let me down. they're not cheap, but they last a lifetime.

buy a Warn and be done. winch is the last thing you want to worry about letting you down cause it'll break down just when you need it most

I have always said....if you are going to buy a cheap winch then you should also make sure it is cheap enough to let you still afford a 12-pack. My theory is that if you buy a cheap winch and it fails on you it is much better to be stuck and alone w/ a 12 pack then stuck all alone with only a cheap winch!

Me personally if it's 500 bucks less I can wait on the Smittybuilt winch to pull me out. You aren't in a timed comp when you are trail riding.

I've got a Tmax EW9000. The winch itself is great, and I have no complaints. It's made some pulls that I was amazed that it didn't stall out. The only trouble I had with it was the remote pendant. It's pretty cheaply made. I took it apart and spent some quality time with a solidering iron and it's been good ever since. I've since installed in-cab winch controls as well.

Warn M8000

for the money you can't beat the warn M8000.

Winch Depot has it right now for $539.99 per that link, i have seen it, and bought it for $499.99.

Its better than any other cheap stuff. Too poor to buy cheap, and like was said before, won't leave you in the woods. I've had mine since 2008 and it works like a champ. Prior to that, I had a Ramsey RE8000 winch, that is now on a multimount doing duties on several rigs/trailers. That's a good winch too, I had it since 2001. I just prefer the design of the warn with the free spool lever...that said my Ramsey hasn't broke. I really only replaced the Ramsey because I wanted a second winch with all the rigs around my place.
