What was done to YOUR rig(XJ/MJ) today MECHANICALY????

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

I actually did something to them both today. Same thing on both....lol

I put a brass nipple fitting on the rear axle instead of that stupid plastic one for the vent. The Rig was leaking so that was a no brainer to do. The DD has had the hose off for a bit going down construction roads. Didn't notice till I was under there doing something else. The clip was broken so it wouldn't stay in there. So I will have to do a fluid change probably this weekend. I couldn't find my RTV or would have done it today.

So it was an easy fix.......

What you need. This applies to D35, D44 with the plastic clip in vent fitting. The hole in the axle tube is already the right size to use a 1/8 X 27 NPT tap on. So one 1/8 X 27NPT tap and an 1/8 NPT nipple fitting with what ever size hose you wanna run for the vent. I think the stock was 3/16 or a 1/4 just remember that if you change from the stock size the upper frame clip side for the hose will not work and may require some rigging to hold it....

After working 30 hours since Friday night, I now have a day or two off. I am about to go put gas in the Jeep and head over to my buddy's to get my drivers side slider installed. Weather is too nice outside to pass this up. I need to get stuff done!

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

Replaced my tail light bulb so I wouldn't get another "warning".

Finally fixed the stripped knuckle caliper mount hole thingamabobber.

Windexed the windsheild....geez nasty.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

Actually wheeled it last weekend! Bridgeport was sloppy and it made things really fun. The two diamond trails were almost impossible it was so slick! Having lockers is such a major improvement! I think it might be time to replace my rear springs though. The passenger side rear was noticeably lower and I was bottoming out on that side a lot more than on the driver's side. I hit a nasty sinkhole on that side and I was worried I might have actually shifted the axle on the springs but the center pin is till there so I think it was the spring not holding the XJ up high enough anymore. I'll have to look at it closer.

Mine moved under its own power again. Front wheel drive only though. Got the tracbar and steering finished up, just need to finish my rear stretch and cut down a drive shaft. Btw that tie rod is solid chromoly drilled and tapped for heims on each end.

Planning on spending a full day at the shop tomorrow, getting the rear done, and hopefully be ready to wheel it. I wasn't able to make it Barnwell, yesterday was my boys first b-day, and we had his B-day party today.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

well it would be yesterday at this point...can't sleep.....

I replaced the rear diff fluid in my DD. Man that stuff was dirty for only being in there for that little time...The vent hose came of and let construction dirt road silt and dust in. Yup it was milky and even had signs of the power/dust on the inside of the diff cover...

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

Only thing I still need to get done is the rear drive shaft....

Rear shock mount....

Rear ford 9", still have to get some leaf springs clamps too. Full droop front and rear, Bilstein 5100's all the way around.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

Jeep has been running rough lately, and while in Plano, it died. Ether limped it to autozone. Checked all connectors, tested fuel pressure (40psi), checked spark. Discoverd rotor and cap was chewed up, while replacing them discovered why. The threads for the hold down screws were stripped out on the dist. So went back in and bought a distributor. Finished install. Jeep started, was still having hiccups. Started back towards Sherman, but didn't make it far, died again. After doing the parking lot hop to get it to a better spot, locked it up and caught a ride back to Sherman. Will return later today with a trailer and dive into it find out whats wrong. Going to test the CPS, fuel pump, check plugs and wires, recheck grounds, and unless I'm missing something, if I dont find the source by then, its the ECM. Also dug out the for sale sign I had leftover from my truck :gonnablow

EDIT: Already replaced dist, cap, rotor, injectors, fuel filter, starter, battery and a few other misc random stuff in the past 4 months.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

Trailered the jeep back up here. Pulled plugs, found they were not gaped properly (.010 or more over) aside for that, plugs seemed to be in good shape. Noticed that when reinstalling the plug wires, some of them were not connecting well. Buying new wires today. Had some corrosion in the CPS connector, cleaned it up. Pulled ECM apart and found some water/moisture. Blasted it with some compressed air and after checking to make sure none of the wires were frayed or damaged reinstalled it. Didn't get around to testing the coil or fuel pump. Did however start up the jeep and it seemed to be running fine, although not sur if its truly fixed or not. Won't know till we check everything else out and then drive it for a week.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

Oh man, the Jeep is being really cruel. Replaced plug wires last night, did a oil change since it needed it. Started it up and it ran like crap. Killed the engine and looked around. Discovered a vacuum line that was taped together and clogged up. Replaced it with some random line we had laying around. Turned the key and it started up smooth! I was like, oh wow, that must be it. Drove around the block a few times, was running great. Closed up shop and went home. On the way it started to hiccup and then it died...I am starting to really hate this jeep.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

That sucks Eric. When in doubt, pull your crank position sensor, set it on fire, buy a new one and install. That usually does the trick for everything.

*take all advice with a grain of salt

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

I almost want to do it just to simply say I did it. I'm convinced its a sensor, vacuum line, or ECM. Eventually I will find the cause, question is when. Will have more info after the weekend hopefully.
