What was done to YOUR rig(XJ/MJ) today MECHANICALY????

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

Well you could just go get a cheap ujoint and salvage the cap off of it.

How does one bust a vise?

Never mind, not sure I really want to know, LOL.

Tore down the entire front of the 88 XJ to get ready for the front lift (spacers), head gasket, header, and diag what seems to be a bent tie bar. The good news is i found the another ghost coolant leak (pinhole) that was coming from the original radiator. I also found the cause of the in-op right turn and corner lights; a corroded wiring harness connector!

Well, took my jeep over to Ian's today, picked up my shocks and we started pullin the leaf packs out. Sure enough, busted the bolt going into the weld nut. Attempted to get the other side out without doing the same and simply gave up. After trying for a moment I gave up and let Ian have his way with the cutting wheel. Tomorrow we'll do the cut and install the other side then on to the coils. Should be done without any more issues. Also let the dogs play with each other all day, so now I'm staring at a comatose puppy at my feet. Yep, it was a good day.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

OK, I'm confused... is the engine hoist your jack to lift the truck or a safety backup just in case? Good luck with install keep the ics coming!

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

You're just jealous you weren't in on the fun DeftwillP, lol. BTW, how are you coming along on your leaf pack swap?

Probably going to pick up either a massive c clamp or a vise that is big enough to push the bar pins out of the JK shocks I picked up yesterday. The vise we have available was just big enough to push in the bushings on the leaf packs. Hopefully today goes well, cause I gotta be at work at 6am tomorrow! Although, I could call in sick...finish the install..then go wheeling somewhere....tempting...

You know, there is a thread on LSJC dedicated to this Jeep. He's been spotted a bunch of places, but never actually talked to. Haha

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

YES!!! Success, finally, lol. Drove the Jeep home last night and what a difference it is to have a suspension again! This was a perfect example of Murphy's law in action with this swap. Broke bolts, lots of bolts, and simply ran out of time. Had to do a last minute purchase of shocks from Vatozone since the JK shocks weren't wanting to cooperate with us. We'll get some after pics up here shortly. Now, just need to make sure the alignment is good and get those mud rovers put on there soon.

Pulled and tested the T-stat on the 89 that overheated 7 am new years morning, that turned out to have a cracked plastic tank, top passenger side.

The T-stat is bad, closed, no longer opens. Not sure if the Rad busted first or the T-stat froze / died first. Stat and rad were both about 2 YO.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

For the past four days I have been rewiring my front aux lights and then wiring in the additional rears I added.

4 trips to autozone and one to advance. Kept running out of terminals...

it took me all four days of MLK weekend. The sun was down when I was cleaning up and testing everything.

I learned a lot (still not enough) about electricity, didn't burn the Wartoad to the ground, but holy f@#$in sh!t a$$ sonuvab!tch am I glad that is over...

Gonna put a write-up in the mod tech forum tomorrow...:geek:

Rebuilt all my transfer case linkage today, also sent one of my tires off to be vulcanized (got a cut on the sidewall)

Finished installing a new toy in my shop today as well.

Looking forward to the write up. I'm really dreading doing the lights, switching harnesses for the headlights, and deleting the unnecessary wires since I don't have a good track record with electrical projects.

Camera died as I was taking pics and I want to do a diagram in paint before I post it, but it will be up soon...

-Today I pulled a small sqaure of carpet up to see if I could reach the broken crossmember bolt through my rusted floor pan- sure can! Letting some PB blaster sit for a bit...

-Swapped tired oem aux fan for a new-ish one.

-prepped rear sway bar with pb for removal- only worried about body attachment since u bolts are new.
