What was done to YOUR rig(XJ/MJ) today MECHANICALY????

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

We talking the same sets. On both of mine the lenses are thick glass and the backs are metal. Only way the front would crack is if something hit it hard. Been wheeling my rig with them on it for a few years with all the stuff on the trails hitting them(trees, branches, fly rocks from people in front of me, etc) and they haven't even cracked yet.

Mine had thick glass too which is what I didn't understand. Both cracked under normal driving mixed with just sitting under my car port for the other 70% of the time.

Well took out my D30 carrier to be able to put in the power trax. It cam e out with no big hassle but the bearings are toast. I set it down on the bench then picked it up and the outer bearing cage fell off which of course then all the tapered tapered cylindrical bearings fell out. Had to order from Napa as no one was able to find them on the shelf or cross a simple number. I will post pics when photo bucket finishes loading them.

OH yesterday......I started to put my new RC long arm upgrade on. The cross member is now on but that is it. One of the lower arms will not let me thread the joint into it. And yes I tried both joints in the one that will thread and the joints are fine. Called Jason and he is sending me out a new arm.

Damn Jay....thank sucks on both posts.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

Swapped the 12-point unit bearing bolts for 6 point ones. 2 days ago I put on a new water pump and bypass tube. The old pump was fine it was just the tube that was rusted and starting to leak, I just didn't want to do the job again anytime soon.

Well the bearings went onto my carrier with no issues sooooo. The powertrax is in and yes it works. Also choped off my sway bar mounts on the axle to prepare for heim steering. Also found one of the u-joints in the driver stub axle was spinning in the mounting ear. So replaced that shaft while I had it out to do the locker. I think that was ALL I did today. lol

use lots of lube so you dont break your bit drilling through your knuckles for the heim steering... i broke my 5/8s bit and bent my second doing my knuckles... 5/8" bits dont come cheap, anything over 1/2" is $$$$$$

glad you didnt have any issues with the locker, but that was expected

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

Jay,
What kind of heim steering setup are you looking at? Inverted t or y?

Also, when do you go to work with all this wrenchin an all?

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

For the steering I am going to go side to side then one from the passenger side to the pitman. Side to side will be under knuckle and one going to pit will be over knuckle.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

found a red grill and a black left headlamp bucket at the junkyard today.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

i got my ass kicked all day by a cherokee with no running gear on its roof. you'd be surprised by how hard it is to use a come-a-long all damn day to winch it up on the trailer

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

Rich and I finished a project on his jeep but I will let him show you what we did. I will be doing mine soon to. Later today my long arms should be going on. I got the new arm from Jason at RC and the joint threaded right in so now to finish the install.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

Will,
My steering I am putting on for now once I figure out the stabilizer set up is just like the pics you got from the other thread. And when I say just like, I mean Rich got it from Goatman back in the day. lol

OK today's laundry list
1. OK the RC arm first. They sent the wrong one. A little annoyed at that but Jason has ALWAYS taking care of us(NAXJA members) so I now when I call Monday it will not be any different. They sent me one of the old ones with the axle side needing the 2 piece bushing plus a sleeve. The new ones have a pressed in bushing like the factory lowers do. And is bigger then the older two piece units. Thankfully till I get the right one Rich came to the rescue because he had a set of new bushings from his(older style) that he hadn't used yet so I get to use those till the right arm and bushing gets to me. But in the long rung the long arms are in and working great.

2. Got the drivers side tube door made. Ran outta steam(energy) to weld the passenger side up. Plus the wind sucked and was welding out side. Will probably do that tomorrow after we put an O2 sensor bung into Rich's catalytic converter. All the pieces are already cut and ready to be welded so it will be quick job. Also got my regular doors to be a little more user friendly to take off to put the tube doors on. Here is a pic of the new tube door before paint. Simple but efective

Like I told rich through text, I like the straight lines on that tube door. It looks much batter than just about any other brand doors.

Will,
Thank you. We copied no one that I am aware of. I bet they are cheaper then just about every one out there two. We kinda designed/figured in our heads as we made his set then onto mine. The straight lines just made it real easy and simple.
