What was done to YOUR rig(XJ/MJ) today MECHANICALY????

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

installed a new master cylinder so i have brakes for the storm coming in. After bleeding to my hearts content took it to a shop that bled it through twice and still have a pedal that goes halfway to the floor before it engages. Shop said it was the longer chevy lines i have in the front...dont know if this is right because ive never had great pedal pressure post lift/larger tires. Wondering what to do next. Have a 2000 so it has the larger booster master combo as a wj upgrade any ideas on this?

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

No I just have it primered right now. I am going to do a cheap Krylon paint job. That way touch ups are cheap.

That is cool, probably what I would do as well. Just didn't know if you had something up your sleeve I didn't know about.

I doubt it would be the longer brake lines, because I am running the exact same ones, and my brake pedal is as firm as our '07 JK. My guess would be you either have a leak in a brake line somewhere, a bad Master Cylinder, or a bad wheel cylinder/caliper somewhere. All of these parts are relatively cheap and easy to replace. Either that or your ABS electronic unit is bad, and is causing it to do it.

ive been thinking maybe i have a bad brake booster. Just put the zj disc brakes on the rear not long ago and i bought a brand new master cylinder not a reman one. The abs was disabled years ago on it. Other than the chevy lines i bent all new ones for the rear when i did the disc brake conversion. When the jeep is off the pedal is firm and holds its when the booster kicks on i get about half of my pedal down before it engages.

Mine does the same exact thing. I am doing the zj disc swap on a d44 i will be putting under my jeep soon... I am thinking my brake booster is bad too, and my jeep is a 97'

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

If your brake booster is bad, it is very likely you will hear a hissing sound under the dash or hood from the vacuum leak normally caused by a bad booster. It doesn't always do that, but most of the time it does. Have someone press the brake, and listen closely around the booster under the hood, or under the dash. Last one I had issues with was loud enough to hear it sitting in the driver seat pressing the brake myself. LOL The problem does sound like it could be a booster though.

WJ upgrade...are you talking about the master/booster or the brakes on the axle?

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

i was referring to the fact that my 2000 has the larger booster/master combo from the factory. Several people upgrade their system to a grand cherokee (wj) system to obtain a dual diaphram booster and matched master cylinder-that wouldnt be beneficial to me as an upgrade because mine came like that stock.

My 8.8 is now ready to install, I have a new steering box to install, I have a new trac bar and bracket to install, I have new control arm bushings to install, and I have a set of beadlocks to install. I think that is all. A whole lot of stuff to do, and haven't had any time to do it. LOL

I was going to truss mine, but I never got around to it either! I keep kicking myself for not doing the new front axle before I put it in.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

Removed old sliders, removed oem rear bumper/ and stinger. Cleaned and painted mounting locations for new JCR sliders and rear bumper with tire carrier. Anyone need a trailer hitch for there xj.
