What was done to YOUR rig(XJ/MJ) today MECHANICALY????

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

So, given that we know that XJ's with the 4.0 tend to overheat, meaning temps well over 170, when crawling, the system would come into play. Depending on gearing, the engine speeds mentioned could also, very easily come into play. I'm not even going to do more than point out the engine run time....

I guess, essentially, we're both at least partially right about the operation of the system. Yes, it engages after highway speeds are met, but it also comes into play long before then when certain conditions are met.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

Over 170 is not overheating. Optimal running temp is 210.

In that example ALL conditions have to be met for the EGR to open. ;)

Take a look at the article, it's pretty detailed on EGR operation.

EDIT: now that I read the article more closely I think the example above may be more specifically talking about the conditions that have to be present for a "test" of the egr system. I'll do more research tonight when I have time to see if I can find a more definitive answer on when the EGR valve is opened.

and here's the wiki i referenced

Also now that I think of it this is the reason that smog checks have to be done on a set of rollers. The smog computer is checking for NOx emissions in the tailpipe, which is specifically what the EGR system is designed to reduce. The car has to be at cruising speed in order for the EGR to open, and by testing for NOx emissions the smog tester can verify if the EGR is working properly.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

From what I remember, my XJ's emissions were checked at 750 RPM...that certainly was not at anything that resembled cruising speeds...but whatever.

Back to my original statement...I'm interested to learn how this affects engine temperatures on the XJ.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

fwiw...a quick search shows the enhanced emissions tests are performed with 50% load at 15mph and 25% load at 25mph.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

Polished my rear window at lunch. Looks nice. My tinkering twitch is back. I need a private shop with unlimited funds....

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

I took off my trailer hitch and painted it... Just in time for the bad weather to hit that is fore casted for tomorrow. I need some better rear tow points I guess.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

well, went over to my sister's house this morning and attempted to get further installing her tranny, and failed miserably. on the way home, my front u joint on the rear shaft exploded (quite literally). pulled in to an autozone parking lot that luckily was just a hundred yards away, got a new u-joint, pulled out the driveshaft, and the jeep rolled back and damn near over my buddy jason that was helping me. apparently the parking brake doesn't work too well. got it changed in the autozone parking lot, and now im at work...it's been a hell of a day.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

Sounds like it..... look at it this way, better that it grenaded when you were in town, and close enough to an autozone to get it fixed, then it blowing up in the middle of no where and leaving you stranded.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

so far the egr dont seem to effect anything. we will see how it does wheeling. also anyone that has done a later model intake on a renix has also deleted theres. does anyone have any long term input about this?

maybe move all the egr talk to a thread?

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

Yeah I would start a thread about it in the National Tech forum, if you are looking for real world info from folks who have done it. Probably get a lot more responses there.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

OK back to topic

my exhaust was hitting my cross member(doesn't have a bad t-mount) and getting on my nerves sooooo

it was rubbing here

so I did this...

finished

and no my welds are not as bad as they look. I used a plasma cutting to cut the needed pieces and didn't clean up the edges before I welded.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

And a few days ago I did this....

I use to have to use a 1" wrench on the nuts near the center of the tire now I don't, and a handy spot for my 4-way

bungees hold the 4-way tight just not in the pic

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

It took me two days, but I finally finished repairing my rear passenger side door.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

Nice... Paint it already??? If not how are you planning on doing the paintwork?

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

No I just have it primered right now. I am going to do a cheap Krylon paint job. That way touch ups are cheap.
