What was done to YOUR rig(XJ/MJ) today MECHANICALY????

Took mine apart some more. Got the radiator out. Got one of the a.c. lines out then pulled the compressor out. Broke two of the bolts that hold the compressor to the mount. :( so now I need a new mount before I can even put this junk back together.

Well Exxon V's Comanche is heading to Houston today. My friend Dr. John is picking up (buying) the Comanche today and driving her back to Houston!!! He is real excited about it, says he will test it out a little off road somewhere today, before the ranch trips later.....

She will have a great new home and be well cared for. No AC on the rig so I hope he is up to the hot drive.

Glad I could help with the new home.

So what's the stroker going in Dillon?

ugh, 1 step forward two steps back.

so yesterday i finished measuring, cutting, drilling and primering the hood louvers i bought. got them installed finally. they turned out pretty good IMO. Ill take a pic tomorrow after work. Also relocated my vacuum reservoir, centered my steering wheel and topped off the PS fluid (found a small leak in the feed line between the res and the box.

Two new issues though.

1, jeep started and run no less than 10 times yesterday but the last time when I put the key in and turned it forward I heard the buzzer and the fuel pump prime but when I rolled it forward to hit the starter all power shut off. Nothing works. When I pull the 60a ignition system fuse from under the hood and put it back in I can start the same process over with the same result. I swapped fuses around as well as relays and same thing every time.

2, obviously not as important as the first the compressor clutch isn't engaging. Any xj specific things to check before I start the basic trouble shooting on that?

Mine did that and it was the main ground on the battery.

the terminals and battery are both new, but i did have to shift the batter around to get my hand down beside it to reroute the vacuum bottle hose. might have jarred it.

ill take a look at that first tonight.

Looks like weak ground was the cause. Ran an additional 8ga to the block from some old speaker wire I had laying around. Going to buy some 4ga to replace it with.

Thanks for the tip!

Why hood louvers? Every one that tried them, at least on Renix rigs got water on the TPS, and just like Mugwants, you don't let water near your Jeep's TPS!!!! Unless you like Jeep Gremlins.

My front brake squeak at under 5 mph just before stopping, up front is back.

because i plan on crawling it a lot and want to get as much heat out of the engine bay as possible. my friends dad's LJ we built a few years ago would heatsoak something awful after running a section of trail. low speed + 3-4k rpm over long periods of time produces some serious heat. even after putting around in town there was a bunch of heat raising from the louvers. i have a couple ideas about shielding the electronics from water. it was raining pretty solid yesterday when i was driving it and no issues.

amp power wiring but same same really.

took it for its first legal drive last night to renew the sticker for my GTO and pick up some whataburger. drives real nice, shocks could be better but overall does everything i need/want so far. surprisingly the 33s with the stock 3.55 gears arent that bad. granted i kept it below 50 it still worked pretty well. I will probably put some miles on it this weekend as i am expecting my buddy down in brazoria county to invite us down for 4th celebrations down there.

Skipped a leg day or two, but found out my death wobble was not tires in nature. Getting pretty frustrated with that and the rust.... everywhere. We are probably moving away from the beach in a year or 2. Keep this jeep alive till then, and get anothet 2 door to start from scratch... taking into mind every thing i have learned.
And yes the shock is off

changed the transmission fluid in the xj yesterday after work. drove it around the block. shifts good. not nearly as lazy on the shifts as it was before. the fluid that came out was definitely burnt, that kink in the stock cooler lines did it no favors. but seems to be ok for now.

ill drive it around this weekend and then change the fluid one more time to get more of the old stuff out. going tomorrow after work to play around on some trails near the house. gotta get my rear bumps installed and look at the rock sliders again and see if i can get them on.

Went to cars and coffee this morning and was shunned by the jk crowd

Got a replacement AC compressor bracket from the Pick N Pull. Only 3 cherokees out there. Two of them are crushed so couldn't get any interior pieces I needed. :( Getting hard to get parts out here.

A father and son team, with a Cherokee and Wagoneer, were spotted launching model rockets today at NASA!!!!! :sunshine:

We had a BLAST!!!!

Been trying to do this for 20 years with him.

I think I found a new use for the XJ roof racks :-)
