What was done to YOUR rig(XJ/MJ) today MECHANICALY????

Ok was headed to the campsite this weekend and started smelling like electrical fire/burning. A minute later Susan says fire in dash... smoke coming out passenger side under glove box. Turned off AC fan and smoke stopped. Drove home and parked Jeep took truck camping.
Little research and looks like I burned out the AC blower motor (known frequent issue). My question is... as usual some on the net say PIA to replace and expensive now days. Others say easy fix with a little finesse.
I order a replacement from RockAuto $50 shipped not that bad. Has anyone actually replaced one? Anything I need to look out for?

I've done a couple of them. Not bad.

It's done from the engine bay, 3 screws.

Replace the resistor while you're at it

Which XJ? The newer ones are a little bit more difficult to do but still not bad.

My 2000. Just ordered the resistor too... hope I can notice / find where it goes. I had read they go bad too. So I will replace as recommended while I'm at it.

put an accel cap, rotor, wires and plugs on. Its still a gutless old jeep :passgas:

and is this really oil in my distributor? looked like a pool of it at the bottom. Or did the previous owner drive through the rio grande and wd40 the water out?

Looks like oil to me ...

OK never ending story :( I replaced the blower motor (probably was good) and went to replace the resistor. As you can see by the photos the resistor must have shorted and fried the connector. I will try and find a replacement online but I’d guess they are part of the harness. So I need to go to the JY and cut one off and splice on. Does anyone know if this connector varies pre 97 and the after 97 models? My 87 is at a friend’s house and I can’t check. Don’t want to have to mess around the JY too awful long ;)

Pretty easy just remove glovebox (3 screws) and then the little kick plate... sits right there.

I agree a lot for the connector but time and drive / removal at JY is a PIA too :(

Bought at AZ and replaced... they even came with crimp on butt splices that have heatshrink insulation :)

Called friggan local Jeep dealer PARTS Dept and he said they don't make them.... need to go to JY :)

jacked with the TPS, MAP, and more grounds trying to get rid of a voodoo magic stalling problem. Bloodied my hand smashing it with a hammer trying to install my bumper off my old xj, looking good for a Hidden Falls run so far :passgas:

any of ya'll done LeBaron vents? Got a set this weekend, definitely hesitant about making the cuts and screwing up.

I haven't, but I have a set I want to do as well. We can install them together and cut mine first.
