What was done to YOUR rig(XJ/MJ) today MECHANICALY????

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

Knowing my Jeep, the latter is most likely the case. I'll have to check into that.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

Made good progress in getting my transfercase put back together.

The main shaft on the left is the reason my Jeep has been out of commission for almost 3 months.

Changed my oil. What does it mean when my oil gauge points here?
OilGauge.jpg

It was like that before and after the oil change. Oil looked fine, I could see any coolant in it and it didn't look like a milkshake either. The pic was taken after the Jeep had been running for about 5 min.

I think it means you have oil pressure.:D

Thats where my 95 used to sit till ti was warmed up all the way. Try replacing the sending unit, its crazy easy and cheap. If it still reads the same then just enjoy the good oil pressure. Just keep an eye on the passenger side of the motor for leaks around the head block junction. Not uncommon to see the head gasket pop in that area where the oil passages are.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

Redid the headliner material and put some Kenwood 6.5" speakers in my sound bar. Hardcore, I know:

But at least I can see out my hatch now because I don't have 12" of fabric flopping around back there. And the speakers were just sitting in my garage so it was nice to find a home for them.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

Got the tcase put in my Jeep.

But can't put the rear driveshaft in since I messed up the last ujoint. Need to take it to a drivetrain place on Monday to have them finish it. Putting a hammer in my hand at the moment isn't a bright idea.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

Installed a 180 degree thermostat and installed the mouning bracket for my CO2 tank.

Also installed the 40lbs package I got. :D

Just need to finish up the driveshaft, and then I'll get to the 96lbs package and the 60lbs package. :spin3:

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

That t-case skid looks good, who makes that?

JKS Manufacturing. It is beeeeeefy.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

Just a heads up... That is waaaaaaay to much rtv on that t/c. That is a machined surface and only needs a tiny bit to seal it. Think of it this way. The same amount you see spooged out on the outside is about the same amount that did the same on the inside. But other than that its about time you finished that....lol

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

Started building a bumper that I've been designing and pondering for about a year:

How did you cut out those metal parts before you welded them?

Yeah figured but too late now! :) haha Cant wait to get the driveshaft in. I HATE ujoints!

I designed it in 3D in AutoCAD, had a friend touch it up in SolidWorks and then use the sheet metal unfold tool on it. Then I shopped around the flat file to a few plasma CNC places in Austin. I got a guy to do it for a fair price, but he had a pretty high torch speed so there's a significant bevel (sometimes in the right direction, sometimes not) on the pieces with a lot of slag. But for the price I can't really complain.

Anyway, it's pretty sweet because I don't have to mock up each piece with cardboard like I've seen other people do. I finished those missing top pieces last night and I still need to do the main three bottom pieces and a couple of trim sections. I also have to weld all the seams and do a lot of aesthetic grinding on the spattery flux welds

The whole bumper and two mounts fits on 2'x4' piece of steel, which looks like this:

Get a cheap press from Harbor Freight. It's one of my favorite <$100 tools ever. I use it for u-joints, pressing suspension bushings in/out, and ball joints.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

Nice work. You ought to look into having that laser cut if you ever plan on doing anything like that again. We have a bunch of stuff laser cut for us and it turns out great. Hardly any taper and the finish is great. You can barely tell where the laser punches through. I guess they might want a lot more though than plasma people.

Yeah, thats next on my list of tools to get. Issue is being on a 3rd floor apartment with no garage so I don't really have any place to put any decent tools (except for my den, which is filled with 5 KM2s, some armor, and other crap).

Haha, I guess that would explain the t-case rebuild on the dining room table. If you were local I'd let you come over and use the press for you u-joint work.

I sent it to one laser guy and he wanted $250 including steel to do the bumper. Um.... no.
