what oil and filter do you run?

im getting ready to do my first oil change before the weekend and im curious what's a good oil/ filter to run.

im at 108K miles and have a 2000 4.0 im not going to go synthetic but im looking for a good oil and curious what weight i should run with it. im in ca where were seeing low-mid 30 degree mornings to 50-60 degrees during the day at least for another month or so anyway...

what filter and oil should i go with? should i go high mileage motor oil?

I usually get Parts Master or NAPA house brand dino oils, which are a decent price, up to spec, and never have caused me problems. PM is Midland. For filters, I have always liked Wix, or NAPA Gold, which is the same. Otherwise, Bosch or other premium filter. Spend a couple of bucks extra on the filter.

You'll see numerous complaints here and elsewhere about Fram, and occasional defense of them. I've taken a few apart and avoid them. Our local Volvo dealer has a display near its parts counter, in which there are three filters cut away, a Volvo, a Wix and a Fram. The Volvo and Wix appear essentially identical. The Fram has considerably fewer, thinner pleats and cardboard where the others have steel. It's interesting that they included Wix in their display.

These always turn into hate fests.

Just watch TV, the people in the nice box will tell you what oil to buy and what brand of filter to buy. All you have to do is obey :wow:

Edit: OK, I'll play. 205K on a well used DD/Trail rig. Oil is Valvoline 10-30W all year round. I usually use FRAM filters, but there is a NAPA near work and I picked up up there while getting another part for the Wrangler, so that's what's on it now.

Fram and Mobil 1 oil. I would change filters in a heart beat if someone else would put the rhino lining stuff on the bottom like fram.

I only use Mobile One Filter and Mobile One 5W 30 oil.

I use AMS 0-30w and AMS filters in all my vehicles....35000miles between oil changes, cant beat that.

Castrol 10w-30 and fram tough guard filters, plus Slick 50 every oil change.
I slick 50 it because my mom always has and her xj is at 330,000 miles and counting and still running fairly decent as her daily driver.

I haven't had any issues with that set up.
