Hi. I am thinking of purchasing an Old Man Emu suspension kit. The kit comes with 4 shocks, 2 coil springs, 2 leaf springs. I notice other kits come with lower control arms and a trackbar bracket. Do I need these? If I do need these how do I purchase other items to mate with this kit. Should I get poly bushings?

You can get by with the stock control arms at the lift height this kit will give you and you can upgrade to aftermarket later if you want.
What year is your XJ?
Other things you might consider is an adjustable trac bar to keep the axle centered under the Jeep. A SYE is sometimes necessary even at this lift height to combat driveline vibrations. You should consider longer brakelines or at least relocating the stock lines to allow for the droop of the axle during articulation. There are other things.
Where do you plan to buy. I would recommend www.dpgoffroad.com from personal experience. Some of the best service you will find and very knowledgable about the products he sells.
In a nutshell...
If what you want is a 2.5-3" lift then OME seems to be the better riding choice if you want to spend that much. I just ordered a set of their shocks for the front of mine. However this is the biggest kit they make and going higher will require switching brands.

Think about getting shock adapters for the top's in the front and Bar Pin Eliminators for the shock botoms in the front and the tops in the back.
I just installed a RE 3.5 Superflex.
I also installed new longer SS brake lines in the front and back.
I also relocated the hard lines to allow for more droop.
How about new bushings for your control arms?
See if you can borrow a strut compressor from your local parts supplier, it will be your most helpful tool in the build process. I was able to get one from Kragens. Autozone also has a loan program.
Air tools also help.

Just for kicks, call DPG and get a quote to ship to close to the border so that you can drive over to Maine and pick it up. I did this when I ordered my 5" lift through DPG (UPS Store in Ogdensburg NY).Shifty said:

Shipping in the US is dirt cheap if you can get it close to the border and get it yourself.

The poly bushings squeak unles you lube them on a regular basis. As for lift and how much you get, it is dependent on which part numbers you order, they have a Light duty and heavy duty, the LD gets about 2.5 the HD is reported as getting 3.5-4 inches. Have a set of drive shaft universals handy, if you get bad vibes replace the rear universal first, generally when they have been 'happy' at their current angles for thousands of miles they tend to pitch a bitch when you change the angle with a lift, sometimes this solves the problem, sometimes not. Also the lift will settle over a few days or weeks, depending on how much you use it, so be aware of that too....
