Looking for a window unit. Room size is about 175 sq-ft. so I'm looking for one rated at around 6,000 or so BTUs. What brands are good? I'm thinking Maytag or Frigidaire, I've looked at GE units but they seem expensive...

Any thoughts? Who has what and how well does it work? It's for my bedroom, so I want something that's relatively quiet...

I just got a GE 6000btu for the bedroom, was a tiny bit more expensive but the remote control made it worth it.

:EDIT: Like I need another @#$% remote :gag:

I have a kenmore 10,000 btu ac window unit also with remote (which we lost) and it works very well! Its great to be able to sleep in the summer with sweat pants and a down comforter and have the room be 60 degrees when its 90 out.

Avoid LG like the plague. Doesn't matter if it's a fridge, phone, A/C unit, 'personal massager', or anything else - just steer clear of their stuff. Calling it crap is an insult to faeces.

Window units are so inexpensive compared to the labor cost to fix them, get the one with the best price and warranty, and be prepared to replace it at the end of the warranty. I like the Maytag, but to each his own!

Around here, HVAC service companies charge $80-100 and up per hour... See what I mean?

For the money I haven't been able to beat my dinky little 'Fry's' special Goldstar brand. $79 friggin' bones and we're starting our third year with the thing. No timers or remotes, but it keeps the bedroom COLD. If it dies we throw it away and get another. It's the American way.

I bought the GE to replace a Kenmore that was 20 yrs old and still worked just fine., It just worked better in the garage than in the bedroom :laugh3:
