I wanna do a new catback for my jeep and i wanted to do a dual exhause set up. I was thinking a suv flowmaster 40 or 50 s eries, but i was wondering what would give the 4.0 a deep rumble if that is even possible?

I have a Spintech muffler. I think it has way more rumble and Grr sound than my old flowmaster 3 chamber and the 4.6L stroker. At work, we put one on a stock 4.0L and is sounded real good as well. I dont have any sound clips.

if you have an straight 6 dont do a dual exhaust. I have a borla header, magnaflow highflow cat, flowmaster 50 series (thats the muffler that flowmaster tech support recomends for a 4.0 by the way) all through 2 1/2 pipes.

It sounds badass to me. I wouldnt do it unless my stock exhaust manifold cracked, went borla for the quality so it wouldnt have to be fixed again. Latter did the cat and muffler at 100k miles cause they were falling apart.

Not worth the combined cost for the sake of sound or performance, youd be much happier with the $700 + in your pocket or that amount in lockers, skids, etc.

In short i recomend the 50 series flowmaster.

Yes you can definately get a nice rumble

I have a flowmaster 40, It sounds deep, not really very loud thought, I know the cat quiets it down alot. I wouldn't go with duals either, its pretty pointless on a straight 6, you'll never get the 4.0 to sound like a v8.

I also have a Spintech, to me it way too deep at idle, maybe I'm gettin alittle old though

Hmmm.
I can see problems with that crossover pipe after the cat.

I guess it depends on what "mission" you want your XJ to perform.

Street fighter? Go buy an old "A" body Dodge and plant a mild 360 in it. Then you can go duals all the way back with no leagal issues and it won't sound like a tractor either :D

I use my XJ off-road a lot and tend to get into some crappy trails which snag my exhaust now and again. I refuse to spend for expensive components for a system that get's tore off now and again. Yah, I hang it high and cut it short, but it still snags.
Last time the rear pipe wrapped around the axle and welds in the muffler all broke. I had to reweld the muffler and replace the rear pipe.

x3. I'm running it on stock pipes and it's loud enough. With 2.5" pipes it'd really growl.

I am running it threw a 2.5 rusty's tailpipe, very nice sound. It turns a few heads. I did learn that with just a turn down no tailpipe and no doors, this is not the muffler to have, the in cab sound is stupid loud.

the reason i wanted to do a dual exit exhuast is cuz i jus want to make mine different from all of the other plain jane jeeps around here. i dont want to make it sound lik a muscle car, jus a lil more rumble than now cuz it sounds pussy. so thats y i was thinkin a suv 40 series cuz it hav the single inlet to dual outlet and i want to run the pipes on either side of the trailer hitch, will that cause problems??
thanks for all of the advice tho
