What is something you would never do with your XJ

bushwackers.. I tried forever to sell the gift certificate.. but ended up using it on my wheeling rig.. Amazingly the Flares have held up, But i HATE wheeling with them, I cant see my tires, and they make a standard 8" wheel with 3.75" backspacing and 35s look way too narrow..

I will NEVER put bushwacker pocket flares on a Jeep again..

I would rather do a cowl intake than a snorkel.

Not if you had a done a river crossing, and the water came through the vent into the passenger side. 1st time I ever wheeled, it was spring run-off, I was following a much taller vehicle, and I knew nothing so I gave it much more gas than I should have. Waves over the hood. Didn't get in the intake though. :)

The vent is fake on the passenger side of the cowl, at least on the 97+ jeeps. There is just a small part on the driver side that is truly a vent.

You wind up just cutting everything off and making it into a tube buggy, and its a lot easier to just start with a tube chassis at that point.

:D

For me...it would have been not trying to go above 35's on an XJ.

After having for all essential purposed built a full on buggy...I should have just sold the XJ as it sat.

Disclaimer: I NEVER intended on going remotely as far as I have with my build.

My advice...if you want to put tons under something...do it with something that has a true frame.

The unibody is sh*t...and will always be sh*t :D

At least when it comes to having an ACTUAL frame, you can remove the body and do all the suspension work SO much easier, better and faster.

That being said...my next project might be a mild XJ crawler (33's max) if the GF decides she want's something of her own.

I'm sure I will catch a lot of sh!t from some in the crowd hahah. but

I would also never buy one of those stickers that read,"If you can read this, roll me back over." Lameness.

Those stickers are only lame b/C most of them are on rigs that the driver would cry all day if they dinged the rocker ...lol...much less put it into situation where it is going to be rolled , and even less likely they have a rig capable of being rolled and tipped back over and driven .

I totally agree with you.

speaking of putting rigs into situations where they are going to be rolled, and things I would never do...

I would never install a 10 or 12 inch lift and 40s on my jeep

My XJ stands 6ft 3 inches at the drip rails and 6ft 5 inches at the top of the EXO ...I'm not saying how many inches of lift be on it , but...lol...many of the guys claiming much smaller lifts and 'LCOG" are sitting with those numbers ...The tape measure she is a cruel bitch huh...lol

Id like pictures of you standing next to your rig and a verifiable height.
My last rig was 3.5" RE lift and 35's. It was just under the same height as me, and im just about 6'2"

And this:

Looks waaaaay bigger than this:

You could totally be right. But having a rig on a lot smaller tire than you, and less wheel to fender clearance than you, it is all but obvious your rig has to be a good bit taller than what you are saying. :dunno:

I agree, my XJ on 4.5" sagging lift springs and 35's is probably about the same height you're claiming.

I could be off by as much as in inch or 2 since I did not actually measure this with a tape , But rather used the opening of the gargage door which I know to be 6ft 10 inches at bottom of the seal when fully open , and took a hand spacing once when I drove under it to see what i had for room to see how much more tire I could fit above the 40's and after an EXO ...After the exo which stands around 2 inches above the roof I caould easily go up to 44's and still get in this garage , So I could be off But it would not be by very much .

Im trimmed higher than you up front. you have a larger tire and yet still have more.clearance than me. so add extra.height from.tires and extra lift height......
im guessing.no way.

I'll have to measure it to get an exact altitude at drip rail and exo ...I don't have the spacers in so it's a couple inches shorter than in the pics , But I think i'm putting them back in since I'm not staying with 39.5's.

Just took the tape to the XJ...from the top of the EXO tubing on the side of the XJ to the ground ...with spacers back in ....front is 79 inches to the top of exo tubing on the side , which is a fair bit taller than the drip rail ...I did not bother to measure the rear ,but the front is 1.5 inches taller in lft than the rear ...This measurement was taken with the 2 inch teraflex spacers in front and the 1 inch spacer in the rear at 30 psi tire pressure ...79 inches is the front with spacers in it to the top of the side top exo tube , which is 6ft,7 inches tall ...If you do not count the EXO with the spacers it is easily only 6 ft 5 at the tallest point and less in the rear since it sits with a pronounced rear rake ...And less without the spacers...44's will make it 6ft 9 with spacers and 6ft 7 without in the front based on the extra 2 inches of tire radius that would be adde should I decide to buy 44's come tax time ...

Damn that's pretty good. ill have to measure sisters rig. what's your belly height?

I measured in the field , so a small varience is possible since it a dirt field not flat pavement , but here they are

Belly skid 26
unirail 28.5 inches

I did measure the unirail back when my buddy Danny aka (the chinakee) with his huge Black XJ said he was no taller , And I remember 28-29 being what I had to unirail on pavements so this measurement seems about right ...lol...his was about 7 inches above mine to the unirail , so accounting for 42's vs my 40's he has about 5 more inches of lift , but man his crossmembers hang super low , so his ctral fram clearance is the same even being that much taller .

In order to make the skid/crossmember flat with the unirail I'd have tpo put in more work than I'm willing to...lol...But it would allow me to drop it 2.5 inches with same clearance ,but it's just not worth the work and money .

Just measured mine. 33's, ~4.25" in the front, ~5" in the rear, and it is 70" at the drip rail.

My Jeep with jackstands under the axles (so higher by a bit compared to when sitting on its tires) is right at 72" along the top of the drip rail at the B-Pillar with me wrapping the tape measure along the body to get it up to the drip rail.
