What is something you would never do with your XJ

^^^ In your case, I just wouldn't be from Iowa or associate myself with any jeep parts or mods that came from there. .!.. :D ..!.

so to build the same thing.

Lets go 60/14 40's hydro assist and a decent 108" WB. That's middle for most rigs on 40's

You are saying it takes more work to make an xj into that as compared to a TJ/YJ???

Cuz I will DEFINITELY call bs on that. lol

(c'mon, let me at him let me at him.... :D )

Half a frame rounds up to a whole frame in my book :spin1:

I like that I can fit 33s on an MJ with stock bumpstops with only a tiny bit of flare rubbing in the back and normal trimming of bolt-on stuff on the front. Never building an XJ for serious wheeling again...

Way easier on a YJ. I can absolutely garauntee its way easier to run a 60/14 bolt combo and a 108" WB (well 107") on a YJ than an XJ. How do I know? Because I did it.

Move shackle mounts to end of frame rails, bolt in XJ bastard packs to YJ backwards, bolt GM D60 right up (leap perches and shock mounts all work fine), weld new perches onto 14 bolt and bolt on. Comp cut rear, and slice the front fenders off even with the edge of the hood. Astovan steering box bolts right in and is pitman arm forward. Add in a D300 and run the exhaust straight down the driver side and your basically done.

TNT front bracket for trac bar, push front as far forward as possible. No need to change steering box, or arm
Adjustable leaf perches on rear. trim front, trim rear. and that's just over 106" stock tcase driver drop HP axle....

(can make it easier with MJ leaf packs in rear and a bit more massaging.)

We just like to argue cuz we both hate what we drive/wheel and know where we screwed up in builds and wheeling and make fun of each other and ourselves as much as possible.

Well he might actually not like me, I piss everyone off lol

You're not trimming the rear enough for 40's unless you're doing like 10" of lift. You'll be completely cutting out the inner fenders and outer sheet metal. Then you either have big ass holes going into your body or a bunch of fab work needed to fill it in. Easier on a 2dr, a real bitch on a 4dr. You also fogot the key step to keep the XJ from folding like a taco, spend hours grinding/cleaning off frame rails and plating with more steel.

Cages are a lot harder on the XJ too. You can buy a super easy kit for the Wranglers. And you'll actually have headroom afterwards too.

I like my XJ as much as the next guy, I just don't see them as a worthwhile platform for a super built crawler. You wind up just cutting everything off and making it into a tube buggy, and its a lot easier to just start with a tube chassis at that point. I'll keep my XJ relatively mild on 35's and stock axles. I can drive it on the street to any trail I feel comfortable taking it on. It holds my family and our camping gear well enough. I'll build the CJ into the buggy, and 100" WB and 36's is all it'll need.

I didn't say it needs a frame per se, just that its way easier if it has one. You can plate the hell out of an XJ uni-frame but it winds up being heavier and still less stong than a full frame like whats already under a Wrangler. Lots of work in the rear sheet metal department, especially on a 4dr. Comp cutting a Wrangler is easy and doesn't require any changes to the inner fender well, especially on the YJ's and CJ's. Same thing up front.

MJ's are a bit different. There is still the same limitations up front, but you can just cut off the rails after the cab, plate the little bit of "frame" under the cab and make a nice tight exo around the cab. I'd actually do an MJ buggy over a Wrangler/CJ buggy minus the desire to have a back seat.

My Buddy's YJ on 37's and a light weight 30/60 combo has had more parts and cracks in his "frame" than my unibody ...A frame like YJ is paper thin and requires beefing just like an XJ unibody , and his YJ when complete with 40's 60/70 will weigh no less than a built XJ , and be no stronger .

I do agree that fitting 40+ tires is easier on a Wranger and they look good with less effort...A built Wrangler will be my next rig after I get a good season out of the XJ and sell it for something else that will take a trail beating and retain it's looks easier , which a wrangler with tube fenders and cage will do .

What is a mod you would never do to your XJ that you have done on a previous rig?

Or, where is one place where you have ended up in an oh sh!t moment in your heep that you would never want to end up again?

Let the gag stories commence. :wierd:
I've never done it, but learned from other's experience: I'd never take it to SFF Fab.

This guy needs to be on our wall of shame. Last time I posted a "buyer beware" on another board, the OP linked our buyer/seller feedback forum. Ol' Josh wasn't bad enough to make the list?:confused::confused:

The guys who have been screwed over by Josh need to post up the facts about his workmanship, and his business ethic.

Stories always have 2 sides ...lol...so without really knowing both sides very well it would be wrong to completely black list a business ...I've heard about SFF and some of the claims made ,and simply would be very cautious doing business since i've heard some bad things . an example I have friend who got body work done on his XJ after he rolled it ,and the painter gave him a date for completion of the work ,and 2 weeks b4 that due date my friend was hounding him for not doing his job...lol...the guy had 2 more weeks b4 it was stated to be ready , So just b/C a customer has a story or gripe does not mean the customer is being completely accurate with his claims .

I wholeheartedly agree with that statement! If you would not say it in front of a judge, don't repeat it here.
