What I need to get done before Winterfest

my red top died yesterday. I left the lights on from sunday at 5ish pm to monday at 5:45 am jumping wouldn't work. So took it out and put it on the charger for two hours and it fired right up.

thanks Brad for that info. I may have to order one. It'll have to wait until after WF.

Hey Brad, do you have any more ZJ bumpers for the bonfire:D

Aaron, did you gets yours online?

BOB

I'll have to check in the garage, for some strange reason I think I still have one of the "early prototype" 4x4 bumpers from my first XJ. Which means in the last year or so it has been moved twice. I must be a packrat, no wonder moving sucks!

Sears usually has the platinums in stock, item #P-1, it's a group 34 battery. 4 year replacement warranty and 100 month pro-rated warranty, seeing them now for $209 :wow: I'll admit it's tough to spend that much on a battery unless you're relocating it to the back or you think you might roll over. But I'll usually pull mine from the Jeep and use it for tons of stuff, running the winch on the trailer, starting other vehicles around the house, whatever.

Spent last night laying in the snow changing the starter on the truck, I couldn't get the tiny nut for the solenoid wire on because my fingers were cold and I couldn't get them to do much. Hopefully will have the truck done in the next couple days, we'll work on Flexd's baby blue POS this weekend and maybe by then I'll have the parts for my XJ.

I need to start putting my seldom-driven jeeps on a trickle charger. I barely got the 5-ton to start Saturday when I decided to take it for a spin, the battery died multiple times and only started after I waited 15 minutes, then let it prime the fuel system for 30 seconds before hitting the start button.

Of course, I hadn't driven it in six months and it has two crummy car batteries in it from the previous owner, not full size military 6TLs like it's supposed to have.

Thinking I might grab a couple of those solar trickle chargers.

I was curious what a 6TL looked like, those suckers are big! In the process I ran across this, which may or may not interest you: http://www.milbatteries.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=183&Itemid=170

Also I had forgotten until I saw the logo that Johnson Controls makes Optima batteries, and it happens that my dad has worked for JC for about 40 years... maybe I'll consider an Optima next time I need one!

About Optimas.

You guys know me....if I use something I like it, I say so. If something lets me down....I am not shy about speaking up.

My first Optima lasted 7 years, #2 lasted 3, #3 lasted 1, I am one my 4th and it is almost a year, we will see.

When they died, they died, would not charge, all at once....poop.

That is just where I am coming from.

No sir, i went to the local sears autocenter and picked it up. It was just over $200 After taxes. Its a heavy ass battery but works great. Should do great with winching, i have a winch cradle being delivered to WF......:D Been wanting to step up to a winch bumper for a while for the farm or pulling ghost through Lion's den!

20 bucks more than an optima....worth it to me. Mine went through my wreck then sat around on the garage floor for a year, then it got charged and its been good ever since.
$135 for a yellow top at Sam's Club. Beginners.

I'll still buy another Diehard platinum.....

Nuts. I got a bad feeling that I may have a bad tie rod end on the Dodge. Have to look at that this weekend.

Didn't get as much done as I hoped... Too much running around town trying to grab stuff... Thats what I get for living 2hrs from my work station...

Oil Change Done
T-case Fluid Change Done
Trans mount Replaced
CB Fixed
CB Antenna relocated to Drivers Front Fender
Aux Wiring ripped out of old location and just thrown in back for now, will tackle at a later date...
Cargo Lights still in box...

Still have drivline vibes and don't know why...

I think the Optima's do well if they're used more than I use my jeep. In a dd, I'd bet they'd last longer than the one I have in my jeep.

I got my red top in 04. Used in DD status until this summer. It's still fine, but I do move the heep around at least weekly.

Glad i bought a proper SYE.....that was easy!

I think all I need is a new CB, mine won't turn on. It got wet. And I need to figure out a trailer to get my tent, tools, tires, and crap there.

If you can't get one, I might be able to borrow my room mates portable one.
