the common question...
i got the stock 3:55 with 265x70x15 tires.. it pulls fine..
but i got a mini spool that suuuuucccckkkkssss!
lol no. off road.. kicks butt.. on road.. suuuucckkkksss!

What gear companies do you guys use?
i heard mixed reviews about Yukon and Alloy USA
Any difference? where did you get your gears from?

im going from 3:55 to 4:56 i ll need a new carrier right?

i was thinking putting a LSD in the rear and Aussie front..
Doug thinks i should do Aussie F/R ..
any ideas on that combo?

i ll order gears F/R + Master Rebuild kits f/r + Carriers f/r
+ locker/LSD or Locker f/r...
Then maybe Tyler can do the gear swap.. :confused1

Im sure the bearings are shot on my axles.. does the rebuild kit include the race/bearings for carrier and axles?

full install kits will include all the bearings for the diff (carrier bearings pinion bearings etc) the bearings it wont come with are the outer axleshaft bearings

you will need new carriers, the break is at 3.73....

i would go lockers front and rear personally... the aussie will have way better street manners than the spool, plus when you wheel it youll like having a locker back there

FWIW im really happy with my yukon set, when i went to buy gears i wanted yukons... mostly its just personal preference, ive heard bad things about genuine gearsets but tyler runs them in the truck and they seem to be holding up well to a 302 spinning 35's, definently shop around and ask about warranties etc

There are "thick gears" available for the 44 that allow you to use ratios above 3.73 on the 3 series carrier. I wouldn't use them, they thicken the ring gear to make up for the increasingly shrinking pinion gear.

IMHO it is not worth a $15 used/$60 new carrier for a much weaker pinion. If you go with a full case locker/full spool it makes even less sense to use them as you can just buy the correct carrier.

If you're in town in a few weeks I'll be putting in my 4.88s if you want to watch.

Oh and did you want to split the two sets of 44 shafts I found? I still need to go pick up at least one set but two would be at a better price.

The pinion isn't any different on the "thick gears." Actually, its exactly the same. The only difference is that the Ring gear has an extra 3/8" material on the carrier side to make up the difference. They aren't any weaker.

As far as brand... I personally do like the genuines, but more specifically the G2 series. They are double hardened and double shot peened to relieve stress. Plus, they have the best warranty in the business. Both my truck and my Jeep and Dans Jeep are all running Genuines, maybe even Jarrad's... can't remember, and I have never had any trouble out of them. They have always set up nicely and performed well, run quiet, etc for me.

Aussie front AND rear....trust me...you'll love it. Road manners are great and even better on the trails. Never had a problem with mine and VERY easy to install.

There are two NAXJA sponsors that sell gears. Just Diff's is one IIRC. Don't remember the other one. I rank yukons with no issues. I now have Nitro in my 60's but do not have many miles on it. I would run lock right front and rear.

I had lock rights on my 1st TJ .. it was hard to handle on street..

I'm running Aussies F/R with no problems.

Jarrad is running Aussie's F/R as well... with no problems

...and that is what I plan on running as well when the time comes...
