If Yakima is the "Palm Springs of Washington" does that made the Tri-Cities it's "Death Valley"?

-for a pocket size point and shoot, my choice would be a Canon SD400
-for a small/medium size point and shoot, my choice would be the Canon A510
-for a medium size point and shoot with great zoom, my choice would be the Canon S2 IS
-for a digital SLR under $1500, my choice would be a Nikon D70 with 28-300 Sigma lens
-for a digital SLR over $1500, my choice would be the Nikon D2X

I'm looking more for a "snapshot camera" or a "point and shoot" than a more "serious" SLR digital.

When I was first looking, I found that the Canon Powershot G5 was an excellent point and shoot. :)

You can't go wrong with Canon point and shoots. I have an older A70 that still takes awesome photos, and we even print a lot of them in 8x10 and they are very nice. Has lots of semi advanced features and such too. So I would say get yourself a nice Canon point and shoot. Any of the powershots are nice and very reasonably priced. The G5 is a real nice camera but in my opinion if you're gonna get that into it might as well go all out on a DSLR.

I shoot with a Canon Digital Rebel which is one of the least expensive DSLR's out there but is very capable. Investing in a decent body and very nice glass is better than buying a super nice body and having cheap glass. I have a couple "L" series lenses that I love and take some nice shots. If you want to see some of my shots check them out at www.twisted-productions.com.
