What are you towing with?

I have a '96 F250 with the 460 gas engine and used it down to Moab and back (as well as slept in the back on a mattress under the canopy). :)

This picture was on the way back...on the front of the trailer was a waggy 44 I picked up while I was down there. :)

TheCodeMonk-what kind of mileage did you get with your truck towing? Been kinda looking at a tow rig but don't really need a diesel.

The old engines, I've found, tend to pick a MPG average and stick to it...loaded or empty. This one sticks at 12.9MPG on the highway (at 55-60mph) and about 11.5 in the city...it got that when it was empty and got that the entire trip down to moab and back, while towing the jeep, extra axle, and trailer. (It is closer to 10mpg if I am running at 70-75mph).

Personally, I absolutely love it...more than enough power for what I use it for (hauling a couple tons of dirt occasionally in the bed and towing the jeep around), and a lot cheaper repair/maintain than a diesel (plus easier to start in the cold). :) (The only draw to a diesel for me would be just having more power.)

That is on the better/higher side of a 460 BBF, mileage wise. But true to the average. Most that I know of get 9-10 regardless.

I wish I got 9-10. I was averaging 5-6, but now that I'm trailering I maybe close to 6-7mpg. But I am moving around 20klbs.

Man.. I want a motorhome, But 6MPG would have doubled my fuel cost compared to getting 12-14mpg at 17k pounds (Truck/Camper-Trailer&jeep) on the way to Moab.. I would not have been able to afford the trip:pig:

wish there was a way to stick the jeep on the back of my truck rofl. heres a shot heading for kentucky this past summer. didnt really know it was back there. twins,60 overs, built trans, trac bars, efi etc...

That was what I wanted to get. But all of them I found here were rusted out, had stupidly high miles, or the straight cab. The wife convinced me that I didn't want something that I was gonna have to sink a ton of money into to be what I needed it to.

I replaced the Waggy with this...

plugged the brake controller into factory harness.. filled the fuel tank and the 10 cupholders. She was ready to go. It works SOOO much better than the Waggy did and better than the old Ferd P/U did.

I average 13-14mpg empty and 10-11 loaded.

Believe me you don't want a gas motorhome, Your truck is close to perfect. If I could convince my wife, I want another turbo diesel truck with a 12' side entry door camper. (We owned one once before)My last 7.3l diesel averaged 12mpg towing a 29' Terry travel trailer and the bed loaded with 4 full sized quads.

I think my perfect setup now would be a 1998 Dodge long bed 12v Cummins w/automatic transmission. With another 12' Lance side entry door camper on it. Then I would tow the Jeep in a 24' enclosed car hauler.

I now realy wish I would have held o to that camper. The side entry door ones are nice, because you can get into them without climbing over the trailer.

Damn that is nice.
